Chickenboy -> OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 4:15:57 PM)

Those of you that know Des Wallace (aka Divepac88) will be saddened by the news that he recently passed away. He lost his long battle with cancer and died in hospital on June 7th. His wife asked me to share the following:

Hi Chickenboy
This is mrs divepac this is the only way that i can currently work out in getting in contact with you.
I'm really sorry to let you know this way, but divepac(aka des wallace) passed away on the 7th june in the local hospital. His cancer got the better of him. He had his head with him right to the end and was not in any pain as he slipped away from me. He did not suffer at all. All I am trying to remember now is he is at peace and not in any pain or discomfort. Anyway I'm really sorry to let you find out this way. Please pass this info onto your fellow game players inwhich he most enjoyed playing.
From MRS DIVEPAC

I know Des felt some close bonds with and within this community.

I'll miss you old buddy.

Sorry to hear that, I loved hearing from Des. Would have been nice to travel to his lovely land and visit with him. My thoughts and prayers to Mrs Divepac and the rest of his family.

RIP Divepac!

I hope this is as untrue as it was the last time he was reported dead.

Canoerebel -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 4:44:29 PM)

I recall reading a DivePac post a few weeks ago and thinking, "I'm glad he's back and so active in the game." Did he ever have a cross word for anybody? I don't think so. He was one of those gents that just seemed to harvest universal good humor.

Terminus -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 4:47:32 PM)

Yep. Good people, Des was.

witpqs -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 4:56:35 PM)

So long, Des. [:(] [sm=party-smiley-012.gif]

Very sad news indeed.

Fair winds and following seas!

geofflambert -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 5:35:00 PM)

I hope I gave him a good laugh once or twice. [:(]

RevRick -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 5:50:08 PM)

If he was up on the board, he probably had a good laugh either at or with us.
Which is as it should be!

Grace and Peace!

Bullwinkle58 -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 5:58:45 PM)

He was around as long as I was here, and longer. A good guy.

An aside: this shows once again the necessity of giving someone the means to communicate with the forum after we're gone. Too many folks just disappear and we never know . . .

DOCUP -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 6:04:17 PM)

This is sad news. He was a good man around the forum. Maybe we should send some flowers or something. I will miss that Emu pic.

AW1steve is moving to the St. Louis area and he'll likely find out if something happens to me and vice versa. I expect you all to have a huge party if I bite the dust.

Aye. Same here, Roger. He had a few of those-he really loved this game (and other wargames). I intentionally took on a game with him knowing full well that it was unlikely to see completion. [:)]

Sardaukar -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 7:35:06 PM)

RIP. He was really nice guy.

DOCUP -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 7:39:42 PM)

He's got a few opponents upstairs to play a game with. Should we put Desmond Wallace as the commander of the CL Leander in the data base?

LoBaron -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 7:51:54 PM)

It is very sad to hear Divepac has lost his fight against cancer. From his rare posts about his personal health it was clear that it will be a close call, but you always hope that everything turns out fine, even more with all the possibilities of modern medicine.

I always respected his thoughts on the game and else, he was a bright and inquiring mind and had a fine sense of humor. Definitely one of the guys remembered by our little community. He will leave an empty place here.

Chickenboy, if you think it appropriate to respond to his widow (you already did probably), I believe it is no exaggeration to tell her the whole forum community was moved by those sad news and sends her all our deepest condolences. He was a good guy and everyone here knows. Maybe it brightens her modd a tiny bit.

RIP Des!

Dixie -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 8:07:40 PM)

So long mate. You were OK for someone who walked upside down and came from the Shire [:(]

goodboyladdie -> RE: OT: Divepac88 passing (6/21/2013 8:32:18 PM)

Rest well mate. I am very glad to have known you.
