lyndonguitar -> Human homeworld Sol System? (6/26/2013 8:43:29 AM)

Hi, I'm new here, I just got the game together with Sots 1 and 2, and also just bought Stardrive last month, and Kerbal Space Program, I also have played GalCiv 2 in the past and just recently, as you can see, I am very much addicted to Space Games, especially 4x games, at the moment. with KSP being the most played recently (500 Hrs)

I have a question

Are there any mods, maps or quick starts out there that adds a Milky Way Galaxy or at least starts the Humans out on the Solar System??

I also tried making it in the map editor, but the I don't know how to change the skins of planets to make them look like the real ones, (The Gas Giant the comes out for Jupiter is red, etc)

I don't think there are any mods like that. The problem is that you'd be tied down to the starting rules, as I don't think there's any way to change them once you've got as far as the game editor. So, for example, I edited a semi-accurate solar system (as accurate as you could get within the game constraints), and I do have a save for it. But there's be no point in uploading it, because it's subject to all my own difficulty settings and so on.

Can't help you with the skins.

Hm nice list of played space 4x games...
But u miss Master of Orion 2 BaA!
U shut try this out... its old but the Godfather of all space 4x games ;D and in my opinion still unbeaten!

The planet skins seem to be designated on a rotational basis. So the only way to get the skins that look right when creating a semi-accurate Sol system is to go off to another system and drop a few planets until the right skin turns up. Then delete it and go back to Sol to put it in place.

Sadly there is no way to set up a Sol system prior to the game start.

Also of course if your humans don't start the game in Sol and you edit the name, at some point you'll come across another Sol system during your game. I usually just rename that to something else when it happens.

to each his own ofc,but i don't see why you would even bother about it...
it's fiction, not a real world simulator. in my humble opinion,it's better to play other worlds rather than our own, because we already have one and even more detailed than any game can simulate.go outside, find space shuttle and off ya go !

Indeed, and my opinion is almost exactly the opposite to that. I much prefer starting out in the Sol system, and many others do too. As you say, each to their own ...

Tehlongone -> RE: Human homeworld Sol System? (6/26/2013 6:48:26 PM)

I usually care quite strongly that any depiction of the Sol system in any game ought to be very accurate. In the game back-story, however, it's stated that humans came from another galaxy and hence are newcomers, so the "Sol" system in this case must just have been the first system they settled.

I usually rename the biggest continental world on Sol "New Terra" when I find it.

shinobu -> RE: Human homeworld Sol System? (6/27/2013 1:32:56 AM)

If I want Sol (and sometimes I do), I use the game editor to "create" Sol...
Create a continental planet third from the sun, plant a human colony on said world, switch your capital to the third planet, then custom shape the rest of the solar system.

Avarice0107 -> RE: Human homeworld Sol System? (6/27/2013 3:13:17 AM)

Just a quick tip on this, in the "races" folder go to humans and look for: 'Name of ancient home system then where it says HomeSystemName ;Sol rename Sol to anything else. For me personally being a Halo fan I put "HomeSystemName ;Reach" since reach is an important planet to the humans in the halo universe and I make the Humans "new" ancient home system into a fortress for roleplaying purposes. This allows you to take your starting system and remake it into Sol with the editor without having to go out and destroy or edit the old one so no spoilers.

P.S. the spaces from the human.txt folder didn't copy into my post so just open up human.txt and search for sol.

Hi. In the new game Horizon you begin the game in sol system everytime you start a game. It's in alpha-stage at the moment but its on early access on steam. You had tried different type of 4x games and i think you would like that. I like this game more because of the randomness it has in the game.

If you're talking about a buggy release, I don't think it's going to be like that. It's still in alpha at the moment, and it seems to be fairly stable (at least it is for me). From a gameplay perspective, it seems to be pretty light-weight compared with DW, but I guess that may suit some people.

Osito
