Well, they couldn't be replaced, at least not immediately but I don't doubt that with the knowledge base on the Nimitz it wouldn't take long for similar aircraft, maybe more primitive but certainly of the equivalent of 1960s Jet technology to show up in the US arsenal. Think about it, all of the technical knowledge of the Nimitz crew, taken in and utilized by the Department of War in 1942. Lets face it, the F86 flew less than six years after Pearl Harbor, with all of the knowledge on that carrier, it would have flown in 1943 and probably would have been closer to an F100 Super Saber.
