This is a complaint about the Matrix site signing us off prematurely. It seems like the time you are allowed to be logged in has been shrinking mightily and I was just logged off while composing (a very important, perhaps earth shaking post [:D]) so that when I attempted to post it it was lost. That's all.

wdolson -> RE: Time out (7/9/2013 4:26:23 AM)

I don't have any control about that, but when that was happening before (and on another site with a short timeout), I highlight and hit Ctrl+C before clicking OK. If it timed out on me, all I have to do is log back in and hit Ctrl+V to paste what I wrote.

I have been caught by that before, and not just on this site. Its a common timeout feature. Depending on which browser you use the addon Lazarus is a very useful thing to have installed.

Ctrl+A will select everything in the text window. So I do Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C then click OK.

For my AAR posts I use a text editor anyway. BTW Notepad++ is free and really good.

RogerJNeilson -> RE: Time out (7/9/2013 7:34:16 AM)

Always best to compose in a text editor not on the forum then copy and paste.... but there's a world of difference between what you 'should do' and what you do do - in my case. Lol.

I compose my AAR offline using Open Office, log onto the forum and then drag and drop. Of course all bold, italic, etc. must then be redone. I never suffer the time out this way.

Lokasenna -> RE: Time out (7/9/2013 4:05:07 PM)

I'm having issues posting with the Fast Reply down at the bottom. Even if I just loaded the page, every time I try to use Fast Reply it tells me I timed out. Have to go 'Back' and copy, then paste into 'Post Reply'. This just started happening yesterday or the day before.

blubasso -> RE: Time out (7/9/2013 4:11:22 PM)

I use, when i finished to write evey post, Re or as starting Thread, to right click and copy my messages. Since i write in several forums i noticed that in 60% of them the time to write is short.
Right click to be sure i don't need to rewrite, than Enter. If the page close the door i repoened it and paste the same message.
Easy and clean...

Odd, in ten years I have never timed out in spite of some very lengthy diatribes. Perhaps they are sending you a message....[;)]

[:@] grrrrr.

Perhaps your son-in-law is the site administrator?

The differences people are seeing may have something to do with different browsers and/or different operating systems.

But then I ran into problems posting this...

geofflambert -> RE: Time out (7/10/2013 4:11:52 AM)

I'm just sayin' all the amazing magnum opuses I've written have been lost to history because of this and because I can't remember what it was I was writing about. [:D]

RogerJNeilson -> RE: Time out (7/10/2013 6:48:48 AM)

Coleridge had the same problem....

I've had a number of time-outs since I updated to IE10. Also fonts changes, button 3-D changes, etc.

I use Chrome. So far no problems. I do tend to use an editor if my post is not what I consider a quick response such as this posting.

witpqs -> RE: Time out (7/10/2013 5:30:34 PM)

I've gotten them in different browsers. Not here that I have seen so far, but where I had a bad Internet connection I would get them mostly when the connection was bad. I think it's the link between you and Matrix, not the browser.

Lokasenna -> RE: Time out (7/10/2013 7:02:26 PM)

My browsers haven't changed at all.

My suspicion is that it's the Matrix servers and/or the connection to them, as I frequently have issues loading the page only to have it work on the second try. It's like packets are getting lost, but I haven't checked that as it's just a forum...

I have to do a manual Refresh to get the next page to load in about 10-20% of the page shifts. This has been so for along time, maybe since the last time the forum software was updated.

This sounds like my experience. A lot of times even the refresh doesn't work, as if it's continually timing out. Can be frustrating when I have a lot of posts to catch up on, as when the refresh doesn't work it's usually/sometimes because it does something funky with the URL. However, if I stop the browser from attempting to load the page, it preserves the URL and then I can try a regular refresh until it works.
