Does anyone know what affects the construction speed of facilities/wonders? I'm pretty sure the colony's population has something to do with it, but I was just wondering if anyone knew for sure.

While I have not seen this in any of the documentation that relates to DW, I have noticed a pattern that has shown to be true in every single game of DW, and and all expansions. Simply put - the larger the population of the colony, the quicker things are built [by the planet]. Go to the construction yard summary screen, select the planet/moon/colony filter to get your colonies at the top of the listing of construction yards. You can then easily look at the construction speed of each colony. This pattern never fails to present. The one exception to this is having the b*yada high speed construction yards. This >wonder< will pump your colony speed up to 1800, and increase the speed at which any other orbiting bases/ports/yada construct ships as well. Bottom line is higher pop = faster construction on colony.

Thanks for the insight. The construction yard wonder coupled with the Ackdarian construction speed bonus is sure to produce some ridiculous effects.

There was some post a while back where someone did some test on facility and ship building test speeds. I can't find it right now but if I remember correctly, the summary findings ran something like this:

- Under 100MM really really slow; need to keep whatever your building as simple as possible.

- Between 100 and 500MM, construction speed increases
- Over 500MM, another increase
- 1B, you see another increase and it is a big one
- 5B, another big faster increase
- 10B, you pumping things out really really fast

I don't remember any increase over 10B.

And this assumes that you all the resources that you need.

The speeds weren't necessarily discrete - more linear as the population increases so you saw increases as the population increases. These breaks just seemed to be natural break points for planning purposes.
