I am in the middle of scen 17 playing vrs Allied AI set on Hard.

I took PM the first of June after sinking the Lex and Yorktown and not losing a CV, the Shou took some damage and was returned to Truk.

A series of wicked CV battles south of Lugna in preperation for invasion of Lougnville were considered tactical victories for the IJN. It seemed like I could never sink the US CV's, they would show many hits but I would never get a sunk message so I figured they had escaped. I took Lougnville the first of Aug with minimal opposition and on my last turn I checked the ships sunk and there they were, Saratoga, Wasp and Hornet sunk.

How does this work, do you have to gather intel if the ship is not observed sunk? The only thing I can figure is the when the CV air groups were elimated due to base capture the CVs were confirmed sunk.

I think that they have it factored in that you may not know exactly when your opponent lost his ship (sometimes its indisputable like the Hood) but over time you will eventually find out that it was sunk. It is sort of nice to finally know. There were some reports of sinkings of American CVs many times over, and I think one of the disinformation programs that the US launched included renaming CVs that were lost so that the Japanese were never really sure.

Hi Milo,

The rule is that unless you "observe" the ship sunk, then you eventually find out about it though "other means" such as comm traffic intercepts, newspapers, whatever. I believe you'll get the real dope within 3 months -- or was it 3 weeks?
