Rolo309 -> game crashes (7/29/2013 9:00:47 PM)

I played GE vs AI (SU) 1941-45. turn 11 crashes everytime, if you move

a) 14. Panzer-Div from x91,y77 to 90,76 or
b) 29. Mot.Div from 83, 73 to 90,76

I think there must be a problem for AI to retreat its units.[&:]

Rolo309 -> RE: game crashes (7/30/2013 7:30:04 PM)

Can anyone confirm my suspicion or explain this crash ...?!?[:-]

Joel Billings -> RE: game crashes (7/30/2013 10:41:54 PM)

I downloaded the saves, but didn't get a crash when I made those moves. Can anyone else get this to crash?

Apollo11 -> RE: game crashes (7/31/2013 7:26:44 AM)

Hi all,

What version of WitE you have?

Rolo309 -> RE: game crashes (8/10/2013 10:37:40 PM)

my version is 1.07.08
I reinstalled winxp on my pc;
installed wite+turn11 on my friendīs pc
did move a) ---> game always crashes when AI is thinking about its move ?!?

Joel Billings -> RE: game crashes (8/11/2013 7:27:12 AM)

So the crash happens during the next AI turn? I thought you were saying it crashed during your player turn when you made these moves. Can you post a save at the end of your turn so I can just load it and end the turn and then see the game crash in the AI's turn (assuming you see this happening as well).

Rolo309 -> RE: game crashes (8/11/2013 9:00:39 AM)

yes, of course the crash happens during next AI turn.
you have to load my save from above (attachment 29/7/2013) then do move a) and then end turn.
crash will happen during AI. it was very time-consuming to find out that this move causes the crash.

Apollo11 -> RE: game crashes (8/11/2013 1:36:13 PM)

Hi all,

For such cases the best way is to always have "Auto Save" turned ON!

That way the autosave would automatically save the turn at the beginning (i.e. before moving, attacking etc.) and we could be much closer to pinpoint this...

Joel Billings -> RE: game crashes (8/11/2013 11:34:08 PM)

I tried move a and ended the turn and it didn't crash during the AI turn. I then loaded the save and tried move b and did the same and still no crash. I am running in debug mode. Could someone please try to repeat this using a normal version and let us know if it crashes. Unfortunately if it only crashes in release mode it will probably be harder to figure out, but the first step is making sure it is a repeatable bug. I'm not set up at the moment to run in release mode so it would be great to get someone to duplicate it in release mode. Also, getting a save at the start of the AI turn before it crashes would speed things up as well. RolBol, sorry you are having this problem.

Rolo309 -> RE: game crashes (8/12/2013 10:12:18 AM)

this is autosave after I did turn a) and endturn. It crashes always.
Are there different versions of WITE. I bought my WITE in a large store in Germany. If I use the update-button (ingame start-screen) it tries to update to 1.06.06 not to 1.07.08. therefore I updated manual to 1.07.08.

Joel Billings -> RE: game crashes (8/13/2013 6:46:04 PM)

I was finally able to get the game to crash using a German version of the game and making the move as you said. I did this twice and both times it crashed. However, if I saved the game after making the move, or if I started the game from the autosave that gets created at the start of the Soviet turn 11, the game did not crash. I did this several times. It will be very hard to recreate this if it requires the German version (impossible until next week at the earliest). I suggest if you haven't already, you try to restart the game from a turn 11 Soviet auto save (after restarting the program) or you save the game at the end of your turn 11, exit the program, then restart the program and load in your save. Let us know if this works for you. It's very odd that it wont' repeat in the English version, nor will it repeat from one of these other saves after the offending move is made.

Rolo309 -> RE: game crashes (8/13/2013 8:56:01 PM)

I tried these variants:
1. made turn a)-> saved turn11 -> restart game -> load turn11 -> endturn ---> crash
2. same like above but with restarting winxp ---> crash
3. load autosave from turn11 SU (this is my message from 8/12/2013) ---> crash

4. load turn 11 -> did not make a) or b) but moved nearly all other GE units ---> no crash

Joel Billings -> RE: game crashes (8/13/2013 9:33:51 PM)

Well, if Pavel has a way to debug the German specific version when he returns from vacation, we might be able to look into it then. Given it doesn't crash in the English version for me and doesn't crash from my saves for me but does for you, something very strange is going on. If you haven't already, I suggest you just play on without making that move and hope it is a very rare problem that won't come up again.

Rolo309 -> RE: game crashes (8/13/2013 10:07:10 PM)

I followed your suggestion a few days ago and moved 14.PZ + 29.Mot to other hexes, no crashes happened.
Then I did move 12 and game crashed again but I didnīt search for the move(s) that caused this.
Now I will wait + go to vacation for 2 weeks. I hope you can repair it - its a fantastic game/simulation. [sm=00000436.gif]

Joel Billings -> RE: game crashes (8/13/2013 10:32:07 PM)

I tried your autosave for Soviet turn 11 and it didn't crash for me. I'm sorry to hear it crashed again later for you. This will all depend on whether Pavel has a way to run the German version and get it to repeat on his computer. As we've had no reports like this that I can think of, it's clearly a very unusual situation.

Rolo309 -> RE: game crashes (9/1/2013 10:13:49 PM)

Now I am back from vacation. Could Pavel find out why this crash happens in the German version?

Joel, there is one other thread with WitE crashing with German version... I just asked the user if it is still happening...

Joel Billings -> RE: game crashes (9/6/2013 9:06:52 PM)

I've confirmed with Pavel that he can debug the German version and have sent him the info and the save file to see if he can duplicate it next week.

Rolo309 -> RE: game crashes (9/7/2013 10:23:57 AM)

yesterday I tested this crash-situation on a notebook with windows7:
installed WitE (German version), updated to 1.07.08, copied saved turn11 -> it didnīt crash!

maybe its a problem with the German version + winxp?

Joel Billings -> RE: game crashes (9/8/2013 2:53:17 AM)

I had it crash on me on my Win7 system when I used the German version. There could be some corruption that is computer specific. Not usually a good sign. We'll have to see what Pavel finds when he gets a chance to run it himself. If it doesn't crash for him, then I doubt we'll be able to do anything about it.

Denniss -> RE: game crashes (9/8/2013 3:51:09 PM)

Do you use the standard german translation or my improved translation file?
I doubt a missing translation may be the issue here but you never know without testing.

Joel Billings -> RE: game crashes (9/25/2013 7:54:37 PM)

This did not repeat on Pavel's computer (or my new one). On the other hand, Pavel said the latest version we have in test may have a fix for this as he thinks one of the bugs fixed might have been the cause of this crash. You can try it out when the next public beta version is available (maybe late next week). If you email me at 2by3@2by3games.com, I can send you an exe so you can test it out yourself. Sorry for the long delay looking into this.

morvael -> RE: game crashes (9/25/2013 8:02:42 PM)

Yes, this might be the bug in pull back routine the AI uses to retreat from pockets, that was spotted and fixed in the internal beta version.
