Exciting game; lots going on. Many recent developments, particularly with John's capture of that port.

Hey Larry, thanks for the file.

Do you need the equipment file as well? I've attached the version 9 equipment file to this post in case you need it too.

Correctamundo. Thanks.

I agree. I'm having a blast and I really love the way Fogger plays. He used to be an Army officer and it shows. I'm learning a lot.

Here's the Leningrad area now. I've pulled back the defenders to better positions and I'm hoping they can hold from there. The last
fallback position is just north of the city itself.

fogger -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/25/2013 4:49:34 AM)

Here is the start of turn 9 from my side of the fence. I made a mistake last turn. My recon unit captured the bridge at Kherson destroyed it and then withdrew. My thinking was I was unsure what units Larry had in the area and an attack may have resulted in the unit retreating away from my main body. Destroying the bridge helped securing my right flank but in hindsight I should have dug in.

I now have to move North to open up the front and West to regain contact with my main body. I have also committed one of my panzer div's from my reserve so I will very shortly have to withdraw one to reform my reserve.

fogger -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/25/2013 5:11:19 AM)

Here is the centre and this will be my main problem. I am still thinking of what to do here. From the replay's I think Larry's line is in depth in that I see units going into the line but are not there after the replay. With the current "bug" it will be almost impossible to take the line head on.

What I did / am doing with the Stalin line is to pin units and then surround and destroy. On turn 6 I counted 20+ Div's in the line. I should be able to destroy about 12+.

With the centre I may pin the line with min force and attack somewhere else. AS I sais I am still thinking. Anyway I better start on turn 9

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/25/2013 3:31:24 PM)

About 20 minutes ago I received some moves from John Fogger and I watched the replay etc. This is a zoomed-out view of the far north
where John is attacking Murmansk and is taking over the area north of Leningrad. My rail cap. increased to 9K this turn so I'll be using
most of it getting some people into this area. Well, maybe not most of it but a lot.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/25/2013 3:41:55 PM)

This is the Leningrad area now. John is running up against my roadblocks and reducing them one at a time and pushing NE just about
as fast as he can go. I'm not at all sure I can rail enough people into this area to prevent the eventual fall of Leningrad. Talk about an
exciting game. I'm having a blast.

Hey Fogger dude. It just occurs to me that you're getting all kinds of good intel from these pictures and my verbage. So to try to hang
onto some OPSEC why don't you give me a five-turn head start on your looking at these bad boys. That way maybe the information will
be stale and we'll have a better game. Just a thought.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/25/2013 3:48:56 PM)

Here's the Smolensk area now. The front line from Orsha going north is all but ready but from Orsha going south I just have roadblocks
in the river crossings and that's not going to hold up John for very long. If at all. So I'm going to have to rail some people into this area
too. Good thing the rail cap. went up to 9K this turn. I've already got about 3.8K embarked somewhere and there's 9K left to use. Cool.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/25/2013 3:55:05 PM)

This is the Kiev area. The Stalin Line is crumbling and being outflanked and John is running into my roadblocks on the next river they
reach. My roadblocks aren't going to hold very long so more people are going to be needed along the Dvina river proper. I think the
name of the river is the Dvina.......it may not be. I'll look up the name and edit it into this post.

Edit: The name of the River I'm talking about is the Dnepr River. The one that runs through Kiev going north and south.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/25/2013 4:03:53 PM)

This is the Odessa area now. Because John captured a port to the east of Odessa that city has been negated and the front lines in this
area need to fall back toward the east and try to make it to the Dnepr and block from there.

John:

If the only mistake you made is destroying a bridge in error with a recon unit you are doing pretty good! Much better than when I play!

By the way, what "bug" (in the game system?) are you referring to?

I agree Petey, John is doing a really great job handling his units. I get to watch the replay and I can testify that none of his movements
are wasted effort. I'm really impressed.

I was going to let John explain it to you but I'm pretty sure that the Bug that John is refering to is the ignore losses bug. This is where,
when you assign a unit to combat there is a check for RBC's and that check is skipped for ignore losses units. They actually stand their
ground and defend to the last man. Or they seem to most of the time. John may have been refering to something else entirely though.

This is some of the losses at the beginning of turn 9:

It's gonna be exciting to see what John is going to do with your line West of Smolensk. It looks rather solid.

fogger -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/27/2013 9:34:30 AM)

I have been giving the Smolensk line so thought over the past couple of days and my solution will be Operation Thor. I am in the process of moving my reserve panzer and inf Div’s to the FUP. Stay tuned. (I am about half way through turn 10 and would like to get it away to Larry tonight)

John

fogger -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/27/2013 11:59:52 AM)

I have just sent Larry turn 10 and thus can give everybody an update for the start of Larry's turn. My bridgehead on the Bug River is now secured. The lead units from the Panzer Div are only 2 hexes from making contact and from my side of hill there are no major units stopping the link up. The captured port and Cmdo drop have now given me 2 bridges over the South Bug and Ingul rivers. Within two turns I should have two panzer div's to drive north and thus deny the rivers as stop lines for Larry.

fogger -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/27/2013 12:10:08 PM)

In the North Murmansk almost fell this turn. It is only being held by 1 Div following a heavy assault. Larry's defense will depend upon how many of the retreated units he can move back in. But as you can see from the picture I have two more Div's moving up.

[image]local://upfiles/22318/F0DDAA86B722488DAFF0E604E7A4E71E.gif[/image]

fogger -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/27/2013 12:18:23 PM)

To the south of Murmansk Larry is defending with 1 HQ 1 Tank Div 1 Inf Div and 1 Arty regt. Very early in the game I cut the bridge at 148 32 so these units should be running low on supplies. I have noticed that Larry is moving an Eng unit up so repair the bridge. But this area is of no value other than destroying the 4 units.

fogger -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/27/2013 12:39:37 PM)

At present I am preparing for Operation Thor and Operation Shield. I have ? Panzer Div's in reserve and ?? Inf Div's in reserve. Because the rail network is down and the units are spread all over the map it will take a couple of turns to move the units into the FUP's. However having given this tip to Larry I will also have to do some dummy moves so that he does get wind of what I am trying to do. If I get time I will write up some orders and post them. No promises as my time is limited and I prefer to play.

Also Larry the only Intl that I have gained from your posts is that the guerilla units will appear every 5 turns. But I am not worried about them. They can not do too much damage and I have Inf div’s all over my rear areas resting.

The "bug" that I mentioned in an earlier post is, as Larry explained,
“I was going to let John explain it to you but I'm pretty sure that the Bug that John is refering to is the ignore losses bug. This is where, when you assign a unit to combat there is a check for RBC's and that check is skipped for ignore losses units. They actually stand their ground and defend to the last man.”

However it also appears that units in fortified hexes take losses very slowly. For example, I hit one of Larry’s fort units (which is a Regt) with 24 air units (approx 700 planes), the Arty from 6 HQ’s and 3 Arty Regts by three times in the one turn before I attacked with 2 Inf Div’s and got knocked back.

What I am now doing is using the Arty and air units to pound away for about 3 or 4 turns but then I am still taking so heavy losses when I attack with Inf.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/27/2013 2:24:49 PM)

Okie dokie....it's 06:22 on Tuesday morning and I've received some moves from John and I've watched the replay etc. and I was biting my nails during his attacks on Murmansk. I don't know why, since it's going to fall eventually anyway. This view is as of the beginning of
T10.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/38BB446E2A2E4EBF91F421E3AF51261E.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/27/2013 2:30:48 PM)

Here's some more of the front lines. It's T10 already and I still have units near Riga. That's surprising. John is in no hurry in reducing
the city I guess. And his units are creaping up on Leningrad and my front lines aren't ready yet. I'm going to rail some people into the
AO to help block and buy me some time for more blockers to be railed into the area.

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/27/2013 2:37:30 PM)

Here's some more of the front lines. This is the Orsha, Smolensk, Moscow area. I'm defending behind the River from Orsha going south
and I know that isn't going to hold John back very long so I need some more people in this area to defend the river crossings etc. John
is coming fast and my defensive lines aren't very credible yet. Great game so far.

[image]local://upfiles/16287/FD26C23344E64C6095A00A9D4D2725B8.gif[/image]

larryfulkerson -> RE: Field Marshal von Fogger vs Comrade Marshal Fulkerson (8/27/2013 2:44:20 PM)

Here's a view of the Stalin Line now. John is hammering against the Stalin Line and making headway down south where he has invaded
across the river and is investing all my defenders. It looks like I need to pull back my Odessa area defenders to the east, well, NE and
see if I can't contain some of John's invaders at his port. I saw him ship two more divisions into that port so he's got a small army ready
there now. I need to rail some more people into this area to help block John. He's expanding outward and blocking all my river crossings
so I can't use them. D'oh.
