It's not supposed to be this illegible, right?

I mean, I want to punch everyone involved in the 'white text on a patchy white-grey background' decision process in the face in legitimate self-defence for the pain being inflicted on my eyes right now but it seems like there's something specifically wrong with my settings. I'm running in 1600x900 resolution (native for my monitor), windowed for the screenshot but it looks the same full-screen.

War. War never changes.

Alchenar -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (8/1/2013 6:37:26 PM)

Another (properly cropped) screenshot showing how the combat resolution table is essentially unreadable.

No this looks like a feature.

Ronald Wendt -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (8/1/2013 7:54:14 PM)

Hello,

this look like the graphics have been stretched or scaled for some reason. Could you please post your system specs:

OS, amount of RAM, CPU and graphics card?

Thanks and regards,

Alchenar -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (8/1/2013 8:19:17 PM)

Windows 7
Intel Pentium P6100 @ 2Ghz
4GB Ram
Graphics... Intel HD (I suspect this is the kicker)

Ronald Wendt -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (8/1/2013 9:14:55 PM)

Hello,

thanks so far - do you know the exact designation and the memory of the graphics card ?

If not, could you please send send us the logs found here:

C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Germany at War

Attached here in the forum or via mail at wendt@anvil-soft.com

Thanks & regards,

Hello,

got it, we will investigate it.

Thanks and regards,

Ronald Wendt -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (8/7/2013 8:36:19 AM)

Hello,

the next version will have no mipmaps for the fonts - this should prevent the blurring on your system.

Please let us know if this did the trick as soon as the version is available.

I have to admit that I uninstalled a long time ago but by chance I stopped back, saw this post and re-installed. I thought you might like to know that the blurring is indeed gone.

What has not gone is the scale unit top symbols (II, III, X, XX) are still not readable, or I must put the Nato option and zoom on the units, but I wanted to play without this option (I want readable nato, and 3d figures too).
Please else make the symbols bigger, or another color than the circle around the units, I even tried to play 1366x768, but it's not better,
or let us define when the zoom change from nato to figure so nato keep readable, the 'certain point' here:

You decide the view of the camera - you can play zoomed out or close in.
If you play with 3D units and you completly zoom out they will change to 2D Counters at a certain point as its not possible to recordnize them that far out.

Ronald Wendt -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (12/13/2017 10:52:28 AM)

Hi ErissN6,

could you post an example screenshot and tell us which configuration and resolution you tried this with ?

Regards,

ErissN6 -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (12/13/2017 7:22:31 PM)

Sorry I had just uninstalled the game.
But you have the picture in 1st post, which seems for me zoomed in the Nato option, but I want the 3d option and if I zoom to be able to read the nato counters it goes to 3d instead. Too, if I use the Nato option, I would be able to see military scale of unit without too much zooming.
I tried native 1920x1080, 1600x900, and 1366x768, and I use a 21.5" monitor, with a big DPI Windows.

Ronald Wendt -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (12/15/2017 11:35:33 AM)

Hi ErissN6,

so basically you are saying it looks like intended on your system, but you do not like the way the game handles the zoom levels ?

Its a bit confusing as you chose a thread that is about faulty display in the earlier versions of GaW.

Maybe, I don't know what was intended. I felt the II, III, X, XX symbols were important, as the tutorial talk about this first. So I don't understand why the game, intendedly??, hide them.

quote:

Yes, but I don't see big differences in the picture with now, and my problem is about tiny 'texts' that I can barely see too. Okay they are not blurry, but hidden in the big circle or dark background.
Sorry I didn't felt I had to open a new tread for the few differences with my case.

If all is working as intended, I can't play. Then some warning are missing so we don't buy for nothing. I don't ask a refund for I imagine it was a good game (with few flaws I can't stand) and I support.

It reminds me about Ageod games, I talked though with devs some years ago and they finally increased the UI with what I said and some of my tiny mods of improvement. That's better so I can finally play, but their engine is old..

Ronald Wendt -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (12/16/2017 4:20:47 AM)

Hi ErissN6,

we can only fix something, if we know exactly what seems to be the problem. That is why i make these annoying inquiries .[;)]

So i think i know now, whats bothering you and if i am right you might have a point that this could be done a bit better than we have so for.

The formation indicators (II, III, etc.) are not removed in a certain zoom, but they get very tiny and are hidden if many units are crowded in on place. Strength symbols have priority in this case which makes sense.

The naturally limited space in the complete zoom out is something we can do nothing about.

we might be able to improve the contrast though, so that for the cases when the formation indicator is not hidden, it has a better readability.

This is noted and we will see what we can do about and post any progress on this here.

Thanks for reporting.

Sure; what I wanted is to keep seeing the indicators well in the 3D option (the nato counter desappear in a 3Dfigure before I could see this nato formation well); and maybe even in Nato option (I don't remember) to not be compelled to zoom in to see tose indicators, because I lose too much strategical vision.
Again, I repeat that a major problem too about these indicators is that they hide in the circle arround units (at least in the tutorial), maybe because they have same color.

quote:

Yes I felt strenght would be an indicator, but it will be false once units have been damaged, with too damaged X unit becoming smaller than a III unit.
But, if these indicators are really just 'indicators', then it should be said in the tutorial, because I stopped there.
In the tutorial it says differences of formations were very important, but I could barely see them, so I quit. If formations are not so important, it should be said that strenght can take its place as an indicator.
Again, it reminds me with Ageod, with an awfull old RUS tutorial which text was very irritating because it was saying false (a fan even heavy insulted me for saying this). So I remade the tutorial texts and devs integered it in a patch. Then I was in RusGold beta and was in charge of the adaptation of its tutorial texts.

Yeah contrast change may be good. Thanks too.

I had made this mainly for other RUS players, those who actually play.., as the game UI is still far from my standard of playing.
My time with the game is: 0.5% playing, 19.5% modding, 80% writing on Ageod forum (half History, half Gameplay).

I say so for maybe you're thinking that I go whining here despite I would play with an otherwise worst UI. No.

people give too much credit to me thinking about things. [;)]

What matters to me is, that you spotted something that is worth trying to improve and might do the game some good. That is were i stopped thinking about your posts and started thinking about how it can be done.

Hope this helps.

Hi ErissN6,

in 1.09 the formation markers will have better visibility:

Hi Ronald,

Much better [:)]

Is the screenshot a new scenario ? Operation Polkovodets Rumyantsev ?

Ronald Wendt -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (1/22/2019 6:25:32 AM)

Hi terminator,

thanks, hoped it would work for others, too ![:)]

The scenario is indeed a new one, its part of the Soviet Dawn campaign and yes its Rumyantsev the counter strike towards Kharkov.

terminator -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (1/23/2019 8:21:31 AM)

Hi ronald,

Looking at the screenshot, I wonder if it wouldn’t be better to put the name of the tank "M3 Lee" on a single line in the Nato symbol ?

yep, the line break is not necessary here. Have changed it.

Yeay! I reinstall the game! Thanks!
Edit: Oh, I hadn't uninstall it. It was waiting long for a 1.09 patch.

Ronald Wendt -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (2/1/2019 9:14:17 AM)

Hi ErissN6,

You are welcome.
The release of 1.09 still will take a while, but it will come. Soviet Dawn makes a lot of fun, but also some work as we add new features and remove all bugs from events etc., takes a bit longer than expected all-in-all.

AngrySwan -> RE: UI Text (in particular tutorial) (2/1/2019 2:13:21 PM)

Hi Ronald,

That gives me time to do the remaining scenarios for the 1941 campaign.

- Kharkov - first tests but the scenario still needs to be improved, I put the enemies too close together from the beginning so the current version looks more like a fistfight in a bar than a battle. I also need to figure out a way to make AI defend victory locations, maybe putting stationary units there.
Bryansk and Tula - if there are no surprises on the front of real life, they come by this spring.

Looking at my old Panzer General II database I found a Murmansk scenario for September 1941. It is on battalion scale, like Petsamo - Kirkenes 1944, but has fewer units. Tt could be converted to this game.

That sounds awesome - i glady would help with testing and translating it into German if needed.
