Stormy Fairweather -> Suggest Action = Fully Automate? (8/4/2013 7:03:41 PM)

I am getting pretty pissed off at my 'advisors'... I set my empire policy to suggest new atack targets and colonies, and I am constantly finding fleets invading planets deep inside enemy that I don't want and can't defend, as well as colony ships colonizing planets far from my territory that I, again, can't defend.

And since I have this thread I have two other questions. One, how do I get all my planets to reliably build and replace space ports? Two, why don't I get bonuses for several of the alien populations I have in my empire, but I do for others?

Edit - Also, why does the 'attack with nearest fleet' seem to do nothing?

Are your fleets automated? (blue circular arrow icon at bottom-right in Selection Panel) If so then they will act in line with their fleet posture settings (see Fleet Postures section in Fleets topic in Galactopedia)

If you think that the fleet behavior you're seeing is a bug please upload a savegame for me to look at.

I would not recommend building spaceports at every colony. That would typically be too many for an empire. But if you want to do this, then look at the settings "Minimum population for Small/Medium/Large spaceport" in the Construction section of the Empire Policy screen. Lowering this to zero should do what you want, although you'll obviously still need the cash to build and cashflow to maintain them.

Maybe all of your fleets are currently busy?

So fleets can be automated individually, or by policy? This might explain my last question too. I had set up my spaceport policy like you suggested. Maybe I just didn't wait long enough.

Nothing about racial bonuses? I still don't understand why some populations I absorb give me bonuses, while others don't.

Thanks for the answers, by the by.

Sorry, missed that question on races before.

The race bonuses require at least 10 million population of the race before they kick in. Then the amount of benefit is scaled by the proportion of your empire's population that the race comprises (e.g. if 2 billion in a population of 10 billion, then 20% of stated bonus).

So very small race populations in a large empire can almost be zero - you need a reasonable amount of a race before their bonuses become noticeable.

Also, these bonuses do not stack, i.e. the highest bonus prevails. So having multiple races that are good researchers does not provide any extra benefits.

Thanks
Elliot

Hmm... I think it would have been more interesting and rewarding if they stacked :/
