That's a very strange allied TF composition. It's not an amphib TF, it's got to be transport- but why have a all the combat ships in with the TF- crazy.

The "Iron Man AMCs" can easy trash any CL/CA, but i never saw them kill a BB. But i guess that was mainly because i didn't had any BBs left after the japanese carriers turned PH and Seattle into rubble.

It was mainly a supply convoy to SW pacific. But same time I tried to move my brand new and combat ready BB and some repaired CLs to the same area together. Was a short trip.

Aside from escorts never combine major warships with a regular cargo or transport convoy. They suffer a penalty from being an escort and I think the over large TF can cause problems as well. You should have had them (warships) in a dedicated surface TF and they would have been fine. Even if following the cargo TF. Odds are your dedicated surface TF would have intercepted the AMC and shot her up. Worse case is the AMC would have run amok in the cargo TF first but you get plenty of cargo ships and can take the loss. That BB is gone forever though. A lessen learned..[;)]

And what's the date? Must be early in '42 as no Allied radar? I noticed that a lot of the DDs ended up simply screening the merchants. I'd rather have them fighting, so agree with crsutton.

Notice that the Ironman AMCs also carry Rufes which makes them immune to long range unescorted strikes by PBYs.
