catwhoorg -> OT Sandy Woodward (8/7/2013 3:48:50 PM)

I posted this on Facebook, but haven't seen it mentioned here

Admiral Woodward, commander of TF 317.8 (the Falkland Islands Task Force) passed after a long illness on August 4th.

A great effort against what many said were insurmountable odds.

I had just ordered his account of the war "One Hundred Days" to read. Still waiting for it to come across the Pond.

FACEBOOK!!! You are so grounded mister.[sm=fighting0056.gif]

witpqs -> RE: OT Sandy Woodward (8/7/2013 3:56:25 PM)

It was a great effort and (from reading) I think much more difficult than the US media and (some not so warm toward UK) politicians made it sound. RIP

I didn't realize he was gone, thanks for the posting. Hal

I hadn't heard of the availability of this publication before, catwhoorg. I'm right behind Warspite1 in ordering it myself.

RIP Admiral.

amatteucci -> RE: OT Sandy Woodward (8/8/2013 9:53:12 AM)

RIP

Adm. Woodward was, in a sort of way, linked to the community of naval wargamers, since he wrote the foreword for the Harpoon 4 miniature rules.
His "One hundred days" is a good read, indeed.

Cap Mandrake -> RE: OT Sandy Woodward (8/8/2013 7:54:31 PM)

I'm gonna order his book too.

I wonder if Sandy on Sponge Bob Square Pants was named after him....or maybe the other way around?
