LordZion -> Help freighter fleet is stagnant (8/8/2013 9:31:51 AM)

I am starting a new game had only 4 colines for a long time now I'm up to 7 but my freighter fleet will not expand. I have Ben chatting its progression on a spreadsheet. it is slowly declining I started with 33 Sf 24 MF 18 Lf 9 P Ships 1 Ms 1GMs. In 7/27/2104. It is now 4/7/2143. and I only have 26 Sf 13 MF 12 Of 3 P ships 0 Ms & 0 GMS. I have heavy pirate activity near my colinies but I don't see the attack warnings for freighters often but still I'm not constructing any new ships at my spaceports. any idea why this is I have around 70 mining stations so I really need them to get out there and moving valuable freight. I do however have heavy indepent freighter activity into my colonies and I also continue to apply smuggling. Resoyurse missions at all 7 colonies I don't know if that makes a difference or not but I am heavy in the negative high demand for steal and gold as I continue to build my fledgling empire. Please advise thank you.

Try to figure out what you need that steel and gold for. It might be exactly for the freighters. Or maybe your spaceports are stuck trying to build something that requires steel and gold and the freighters are queued. But it does seem to me that you might have overexpanded your mining activities a bit too far. 70 mining stations seems like too many. Especially if they're not for Steel or Gold which you need.
Also, How many of those mines are building at the same time.
Are your freighters idle or are they actually doing something. If they're all busy, see what's keeping them so busy and stop it if it's not prioritary.
Check your diplomacy. Are you doing a lot of trade with other empires? If so, maybe you should initiate trade sanctions with them until you get your resources going.
One more thing, don't expect all the resources from minig stations to be transported to the space port. Many of them might get reserved by other empires directly from your mining stations if you're using default designs (Commerce center module is on every mining station by default).

Thank you

How do you interact with freighters

The commerce center on mines yes I also put them on mines is that OK or better to let the spaceports handle that. thought it would help me make money.

I thought the more mining stations you built the more freighters would populate. (Supply&Demand). Sort of thing. If I colonize more will my freighter fleet grow. I did put some trade sanctions on some races. Thank you for that advice. I always try to expand my mines in advance so I'm not in need for a lot of resources later. but I guess it does just add up on the resources to construct all those mine exspeichiely the large ones I design. Also. I design all my freighters transports space stations and mining ships with ALOT. of cargo space figuring they would mine more transport more and store and trade more. is this correct or is this flawed. Lastly. How do commerce centers work and how do you sell/buy resources. Thank you

- Freighter are part of the Private sector. You don't have any control over the Private sector. As normal empire you can't build these ships. You only can Scrap these ship (over the Ship screen). But the good thing are, you don't need to pay for them either.

- from the player side there is nothing know how the private sector handle the resources from mining stations. I just know when there are missing resources somewhere there is a "Just in time" cargo managment for construction. They queue a small freighter to pickup these resources and deliver it to the needed station/ship.

- Private ships like all other small ships are build at Spaceports. Check your Spaceports. At the left side the Icon bar, the 3. icon from top show you your Spaceport list.
After you select a Spaceport from the list, it is show at the info window down left.
At the info window very at the bottom, below the Troops, you can see how many ships are docked, and how many ship are build and how many waiting for constrution.

When there are many ship waiting, there are mosttimes a shorttages of resources. At the info window, you will see a orange text pretty on top. This indicate that this Spaceport/Colony are missing these resources to build.

But when you don't have any resources shorttages, or any stalled constructions, but you think you have not enough freighter. I need to say it is all OK, your private sector AI think it can handle it with all these current ships.
