Check the amount of credits you have. It won't let you build if you don't have enough to cover the cost.

The issue is clearly one of defensive bases not being able to be built from the right click menu if they are so large that they can only be built at planets. It is definitely a bug, and hopefully it will be fixed soon. You can easily test this in your own game. It has nothing to do with cash on hand, and the addition of one unit of size, putting the defensive base over the non-planetary build size limit, is enough to remove the base from the planetary right click menu.

Thanks for this! :) couple comments:

1. the top link (the one on Matrix I think) was broken for me. I was able to download from the "patch scrolls" German site however.

2. might be worth considering updating the digtital download of Shadows with the material in this patch? I just bought the game about a week ago, and assumed it was the most up-to-date version. Not a big deal, but if it is a few simple key strokes maybe worth the effort.

The links at Matrix, both the update & mod docs, appear to be broken or for other reasons not working.

Yup, not working for me either. Granted, I appreciate the updates and especially the long-awaited modding guide - but Matrix may want to cross-check that the links actually work before posting them as this has happened before.

I agree, that was unacceptable, apologies for the inconvenience folks. The "Check for Updates" from the game menu was working at least. I've just fixed the links, please try them again.

Did you refresh the page? If you are still using a cached copy, the links may not work. They work fine for me now.

I did. Check for updates does not work either... freezes when creating handle for the file...

Refreshed (Firefox Ctrl-F5 and Ctrl-Shift-R both used) and no effect.
Tried with Chrome and IE - still doesn't work.

Launcher "check for update" also still fails.

The launcher auto-update works fine here. What problem are you getting?

I forgot that the FTP has mirrors which can take some time to sync, so when I fixed the link it may not have worked for all locations until all the FTP mirror servers synced up.

Regarding the automatic "Check for Updates" updater, I know you have the update now but if that was not working for you could you please e-mail me at erikr@matrixgames.com with your IP address and/or country? I want to double-check to make sure one of the mirror servers for the automatic updater hasn't failed to sync.

This will really help a lot with certain cargo issues

Thank you, Sir. I'll go ahead with install and patch. I recently got the urge to play a 4X game again (hadn't played one since MoO2). I played Armada 2526/Supernova for a couple of weeks and while it's not a bad game it just doesn't have enough meat on the bones. Plus, forums for that game are pretty much dead. I'm looking forward to Distant Worlds and a forum where I can get the help I'll undoubtedly need.

My saved games are gone after latest patch. Is this normal?

yes.
the saved games are in folders named by the version.
so the games are still there but not in the same save game folder.
if the patch is save game compatible you could move the saved game into the new versions folder otherwise start a new game or undo the patch to finish you old game.
