Schmart -> Soviet Fronts (8/11/2013 6:25:51 PM)

There are 3 Russian Front HQs that seem to survive until the end of the game:

Leningrad Front
North Caucasus Front
Trans Caucasus Front

Historically, these were phased out through the war. Leningrad Front more or less fell out when Finland surrendered. Trans Caucasus left after Rostov was recaptured, and North Caucasus Front once the Crimea was clear. I think retaining these HQs gives the Russian player an unfair C&C advantage. I suggest:

1. Leningrad Front withdraws when Finland surrenders or Vyborg is captured by the Russians.
2. Trans Caucasus Front only actives when the Axis cross the lower Don (like when AG B activates by capturing Manych, Bataysk, and Azov), and is later withdrawn when Rostov is recaptured.
3. North Caucasus Front is withdrawn when the Russians cross the lower Dnepr and recapture Nikolaev.

Yes, let's overload Fronts even more by removing three of them.

Soviet Front capacity is strained as it is. I'll subscribe to this idea when that Front capacity goes up.

If we're going to talk historical here, let's start with the fact that late war Soviet Fronts cannot come anywhere near accomodating the kind of force concentration made by the 1. Ukrainian and 1. Belorussian Fronts.

So these premier late war outfits led by Konev and Zhukov are in fact quite inneffective. The commanders will fail their checks left and right. The game does everything to discourage you from trying to put these together. Because if you do, you might as well put a nitwit like Budenny in charge of them, and move your superstars into army commands or secondary Fronts.

but Leningrad front did survive until the end of the game [:)]
