Q-racy -> Units & Strategies in SPWAW (1/14/2003 2:10:17 AM)

Hi everyone!

Is there anywhere on the web a listing of all units? I'm playing SPWAW for a longer time, but still don't know all advantages and specials.
Does a strategy-guide exist? Where can I get it?

A strategy guide as such I haven't seen but there are various articles around the web. I will publish some of them in the next Raiders Hq. There was an excel spreadsheet of all the units on the web sometime back I will see if I can find it.

Have you looked at the World at War link on the 1st screen of SpWaW? It is an imbedded manual that you need adobe acrobat to view. Also look at the following link towards the bottom for Larry Holt's guide.

The link to the excel file was recently posted in this forum, I think Gmenfan did it, but I can't readily find it and the zip file is too large to attach.

:D

Hah! Found the link to the spreadsheet.

If its the one we were taling about a few days ago, the spreadsheet zip is around 7 Megs or so, expands to 33+ Megs and contains a lot of information of marginal use to the new gamer. Probably thirty columns with info as to bits set for this and that, with no idea at all what the setting means.

The player can get a nation by nation dump very easily from the Chlanda utility; this has the advantage of being current. The above spead is for the default, standard installation . Make a change to any unit in any naiton, it is instantly outdated, all 33 Megs of it.

If the player just wants to find out what the units are why not simply view them in the encyclopedia? There are writeups for almost everything German, less for other nations but the critical data are displayed in a form which can be read and understood. Also open the OOB Editor and read the data from there, at least the individual parameters are labelled, which they are not in the big one.

If someone can explain every last column in the big spreadsheet, maybe we have something. I think it would be overhelming to the new user. Certainly not injurious to the health to take a look at it, if the d/l time isn't over a slow dialup connection.

It's the only spread sheet that I know of. It is a little unwieldy to use , isn't it?

For strategy... read these forums! :D

Hey, it would be nice if someone could make a webpage/set of webpages that reproduced the Encyclopedia. I for one would rather Alt+TAB to it, than go through the numerous clicks to get in and out of it.

Hey THX!

Will have a look at it this evening!

You would first need a converter for the images, which are not standard for Paint, ACDSee viewer or Photoshop 6. Then you would have to set up the HTML pages, reference the text files and implant the images.

A lot of work, after years of existence of WAW no one has volunteered, not even before using the sick father-in-law excuse.

Just open the application, click on the encyclopedia and look at the entries. There is a lot of info in there, easy to get at.

Great idea. The PDF file is about 12MB; does anyone know of a format that would shrink it down?
Removing the extraneous graphics will help, but most free servers have a limit of 5MB.
