Peever -> HQ & Leader Usage (8/23/2013 1:39:52 AM)

I am wondering what are some general strategies or tips on the best usage of HQ units. As the Allies I'll put Nimitz in command around mid December when I can spare the points and then forget about him leaving him stationed in Pearl. Should I move the unit closer to the front in the South Pacific? I usually just leave the historical commanders in their role and don't bother to replace them. Should I?

Should I leave Kimmel in charge in pearl and use Nimitz in a more offensive role such as South Pac HQ leader? What about General Short? Leave him in charge or follow history and sack him?

Who do you use for leadership roles and where do you station them?

There are different types of HQ's that perform different functions. I don't have one of the designed cheat sheets that lists full benefits for every type of HQ, but in general (manual reference)
Air - increases number of planes that can fly 7.2.1.5
amphibious - used in invasions to increase effectiveness 8.1.1
corps - support and commander 8.1.1
Army - support and commander greater range 8.1.1
naval - naval support, commander and repair 8.1.1
Command - combined 8.1.1

Hq effective ranges vary

One quick question...

For Command HQs that are also Naval HQs (for example 4th Fleet) is it best to treat them as Command or Naval? They are described as type "HQ n" but when you bring up the unit details as "Command HQ". Thanks in advance.

AFAIK the title is not relevant. What counts is the type on the unit details screen. So that HQ is a simple command HQ.

Which colors represent first, second and third?

You're suppose to put your most bone head Admiral in charge of "SoPac" "PacFleet"...etc since they're just a rear area HQ for naval support at a major base. Keep Kimmel there and send Nimitz out to the front.
