It's been a while since I have checked the forums for an update on MWIF. I'm glad to see it's progressing, but am curious if a Kickstarter campaign was/is considered to help with coding manpower? It's been a huge job, and I can't wait for release. I would easily pay $50 to help kickstart if it meant an advance copy on release.
JParton, some months ago (3 - 4... I don't remember), there's a thread on same subject started by me, with some comments. I agree with you, crowfunding seems to be the best way to reach (shorter) business goals (on videogames industry at least).
