@PiN@ -> Spwaw 4.5 in NT 4.0 is it possible ?!?! (2/24/2001 10:22:00 PM)

Hi everyone I have a problem, im trying to play Spwaw with my Nt 4.0 servicepack 6( AMD 233 and 32 MB of memory, 10 g on harddrive) the begining video plays fine but when i hit esc or space, screen goes black and then it goes back to NT in Spwaw autorun screen. Does anyone know how can i get the Spwaw to work in my computer, i have played it with same computer in Win98 and it worked fine, but does it work in NT ?!. Any help would be nice. Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, NT 4.0 is very gaming unfriendly. Due to it's restrictive Hardware list, you probably will find that something is not listed in the NT Hardware Compatibility List. You can check this list on Microsoft's Knowledge Base. I run SPWAW on Win2k Pro, and it works like a charm!

I have gotten SP:WaW to work pretty well on some hardware configs, but it has strange problems in general, like not being able to enter test into the fields, or some bshortcut keys not working. It works fine on Win2000 (in fact that is the primary developing environment I'm using - though I can dual boot to WINME.

Try the following: - delete the .prf file start mech.exe directly - check if the sound card is configured correctly - search M$ for DirectX3.0 for NT and re-install (though this should be unnecessary with service packs installed) - did you install SPWAW with admin login ?? - are the different SPs installed correctly? .. hey, I'm running SPWaW4.5 at work, on NT4.0 SP6 on a HP Vectra with on-board G200 and some Crystal soundchip .. and the only thing that doesn't work is the "show mission button" (or was it "show map" ??), so it could be done !! Go for it if you wish! But the dreaded BSOD is just around the corner. Your average NT workstation is going to give you fits. It's much easier to move to the much more flexible & stable W2k and avoid the headaches!

I had no major problems with NT on service pack 5. It occasionly crashed to the desktop, but that happened only on load/save. Also never click on 'Show Mission' - there seems to be a missing DirectX call ( NT with sp 5 supports only direct X 3.0) I didn't even have Admin rights for the box ! Am now on win2000, very nice - but I still get the odd crash when loading ?, not a real problem..... Anthony
