Hyena Grin -> Pirates Not Honoring Agreements (9/3/2013 6:56:38 PM)

Twice now I have started a Shadows game near a pirate faction that would show up, demand payment, and then attack me anyway, destroying my construction ship and station before I can complete them and then raiding my planet.

While this isn't exactly unexpected behavior for pirates, it does make starting a Shadows game rather difficult when it happens.

There should be a buffer period at the start where the pirates will *always* give you enough time to get things rolling before stabbing you in the back.

I haven't run into this issue, but you do have to pause immediately before the pirates get their attack started.

Once they start their attack mission, they won't stop until it is complete.

Also, once this first attack is done, I've found that my home world won't get attacked again but any new colonies get raided repeatedly.

I haven't seen this sort of behavior either, although I also tend to pause immediately, before they begin their attack.

Then I make a protection deal with them and break it 30 seconds after they warp out. If they turn up again, I just rinse and repeat. Seems kind of an exploit, but if the game keeps letting me do it.......

Yup, I've done that Lucian. [:D][:D][:D][:D] Sometimes I have seen pirate factions except payment then revoke the deal and attack.

ReadeB, I have paid off pirates in mid-attack and they stop there attack and left the area.

This happens to me a fair bit. Sometimes I can recover from the attack, other times they raid and bankrupt me to the point of game death - all your steel and money gone, your population rebelling over it. (I actually lost my homeworld, then the game on that last point).

However, with this event being right near the start of the game I don't find it a big deal to just start over if things go badly.
