Glad I adopted a policy of never buying Total War games on release. Wait a year and you can get a fully patched up version, all the DLC, and probably an expansion pack for half of what it costs today.

^ After getting burned a few times, I've adopted a similar policy for anything put out by Paradox.

Looking forward to buying Europa Universalis 4 on a $5-10 Steam sale after the inevitable 2 dozen patches and 1-3 expansions happen.

Oh, that was Braveheart, a quick tie in movie game... I think it was released a year or two after the movie came out. Horrible, horrible game. The city management was totally impossible to figure out and the battle engine wasn't much better. I remember you had to manage everything in the local villages, all the way down to counting arrows and axes for your men. Then when the battles would load up you'd have like 10-20 guys running around a smeared texture landscape looking for the enemy to fight.

It's no wonder that game has been memory holed. It was just mind rape to even recall it.

Yeah..... Had it. Went skeet shooting with it.

I hope you hit a bullseye. [;)]

Remember a few years ago when that group of gamers set up that website to find and destroy every known copy of Shaq-Fu? Yeah, someone should do the equivalent to Braveheart. The game almost ruined what respect for Scots I had gained from watching the movie.

Gilmer -> RE: Rome II Total War (9/12/2013 12:25:32 AM)

And there was a year about 15 years in, that it would crash. No ifs, ands, or buts, it would crash. It was the worst game I have ever bought and I told myself I would never buy another Eidos game due to that one.

I don't feel betrayed. I am as hardcore as any gamer, but suggesting that a video game can somehow betray you calls into question if you are investing too much emotion into the hobby.

It certainly has it's problems. Some stuff takes getting use to and it had some technical issues. I was one of the ones that had black textures where shadows were supposed to be. Rendering the game more or less unplayable at release. But the first patch cleared that up and the second path is downloading.
I won't completely excuse CA for a spotty release. But when a game tries to relieved such a broad sweeping game world, I am more forgiving.
Shogun 2 is completely different from release due to numerous updates. It ran poorly for me at launch but was optimized to the point where I can now play it at ultra settings at 30 FPS on an aging machine.

After watching some more of these video reviews, a funny analogy came into my head about Rome 2, made me chuckle... and all that hoo-hah.

Rome 2: Total War is a gorgeous blonde, runway model and totally sexy babe.

...And she has down syndrome, and her makeup is all f**ked up. And she just got out surgery from someone hitting her in the head with a brick.

Yep, that is it. 'Bout sums it up.

It's like the fanbois retaliating over a silly game. Talk about emotional one guy who said he was a psycologist said they really needed professional help, something to do with kinship ties emotions with a silly game. Nobody should get that emotional over any game but they do. Has something also to do with his father didn't show enough love for him or his mother. But, we all do it really, well most all of us some of us our fathers loved us lol. I said yeah but professional help costs $100's of dollar a silly game only costs $60 at a time and most are far and between the next lol Of course he began arguing the long term problems and issues if neglected. Said you would go bald, blind (worst thing for a gamer) divorced and fat. lol Pinned me like a bird. lol I can't see out of my left eye lately. I'm bald and divorced. I have lost 26 lbs lately because of a stroke I just had.l lol

I doubt the credentials of a psychologist who blames baldness on emotional problems. The rest of the prognosis sounds fairly superficial also.

I'm surprised I haven't heard much whining about the one unit that's desperately, utterly, really broken in Rome II: War Dogs. They are the Kido Butai of the game.

warspite1

What do you mean? They carry aircraft?

Yes. Quite.

warspite1 -> RE: Rome II Total War (9/13/2013 5:54:56 PM)
