I already know what the answer will be, but in light of how John Tiller has made it plain it can be done (he is after all releasing his Panzer Corps series for Android), I guess what I really want to see, is Strategic Command come out for tablet.

Please don't bore me with how wargaming needs the PC. It only demonstrates incredible naivete.

Just yesterday I was laughing with a friend. He bought a new TV. 70 inch 3d plasma. It can make toast. No seriously, it CAN make toast. Granted it tells the toaster to do it. But it can also tell him when the laundry is finished. And it can talk to his tablet of course. And his tablet can talk to his computer too not surprisingly. But the thing is, HIS butt can be sitting anywhere in the home he feels like and he is not required to sit in a specific location in front of a specific machine, and look at a specific monitor.

Tomorrow's wargamer isn't going to be just a PC wargamer, that's for people too afraid to get the keester out of the past.

I'd love to be playing SC off of my tablet. We both know it can be done. But we can't buy it, if you refuse to sell it. And I think you will get richer faster Hubert, selling uncountable units for 10 bucks over the usual sum to the usual small crowd of people we all know as wargamers.

I just want to be able to type 'wargame' or 'grand strategy' into Google Play, and get something that looks better than the usual fare that comes up.

From the Battlefront forum (though it was last year):

Clearing the cobwebs off this forum to inquire if there were any thoughts of resurrecting SC1 as an app? I think the IOS/Android market could use this game as it is streamlined enough to be functional....now onto to the Russian Civil War with the WWI expansion and let the cobwebs return....

It is definitely on my radar JP, just a matter of when and not if, if of course all goes well on my end

SC1 on iOS would be awesome.

Outstanding. Thanks for the input.

I got an iPad2 recently and enjoy Shenendoah Studios Battle of the Bulge. I am not much impressed by what else is out there right now. The tablet needs to keep things pretty simple, and simple games like Bulge work well. I commented above about Grigsby's World at War coming to iOS. It should be doable and ok, but what about mods?? I fear we may get locked into un-moddable apps, and better enjoy what we get or be done. I don't know. As far as SC, I'm not sure how some of the game mechanics such as pull-down menus and scrolling around a minimap will work for extended gaming on a touch screen. I have some doubts. I'd rather see Hubert focus on getting things right with SC3 for the PC and then consider a conversion project down the road. Seems like too many new issues to wrestle with for a tablet, just to impress a few folks. That's not naivete; that's practical.

Oh it is naivete pzgndr, but that's the definition of naivete though.

A mouse is a control input device, and so is a finger. The mouse inputs data based on where the mouse is and the finger tip inputs data based on where it is used as well. It's not really all that complicated, it is merely a case of decent aim with one's finger tip, or using a stylus when one prefers a bit better aim.

That was the thing I learned looking at John Tillers demo offering. The game actually looks and feels and performs the same way I expect to to run on a PC, but, rather than left clicking a mouse, I am just tapping a finger tip. And the nice thing about fingers, is I have 5 of them :) My mouse tends to limit me to at best 2 options.

As for modding, I am not as versed with mods, but can't see why an app need be different. And I like that once I own a program, all of my devices share it between themselves automatically. I buy a game on my PC from Google, and I can tell it to install it to all of them simultaneously. I wish PCs were that functional.

PCs are not dying per se, but, they are also not the only trick in town.
