I have both RGW and AGW and the idea of combining the two makes perfect sense of course. I get the feeling though, it will be like comparing fine German chocolate, with the best of fine Swiss chocolate when comparisons are made as would be inevitable with wargaming, when comparing them with Gary's designs. I am slightly inclined to think that Ron's games will be superior to Gary's even if the differences are entirely difficult to really express. Ron has never made any effort to make his games 'computer wargames' per se, they are what they are, board games on a computer interface. Meanwhile, Gary is likely pursuing the notion of an AI for his creations, and I don't fault him for listening to the largest group when it comes to listening to the complaining :) Any time a wargame goes past squad tactical a lot of things occur. Sometimes it is the hell of ahistorical and sometimes it is the reality of AI limitations. In my perfect world inasmuch as wargames is concerned, wargames are made to display on my computer sans ANY AI simply so I can solve 'where to put it' based questions, and they are given a great play by email process if I am actually willing to get off my stubborn behind and find a human to play against. I don't go looking for reasons like available time, and the problems of adult life to justify adding AIs to games that never needed them. If I had a 6x8 foot space, I'd be playing Fire in the East, and solo of I had to, and I would not be encumbered by issues that plague even games like War in the East. All WitE is to me, is Fire in the East and no trouble with a large table. Ron's games, to his credit, often play like board games, and nothing else, as Ron basically thinks the same way I do. Thus far, I have not seen anyone outdo Ron's creations, but, they are impossible to play without the right attitude. I'm looking forward to seeing if I am up to the challenge of World in Flames as well. The last time I set up my board game, it ate all of my 4x6 platform, and then asked me for more :) The real thing is better, just also inconvenient.
