Can people recommend decent books/websites for getting more information on the platforms and weapons used in this game, along with ideas of tactics to try ?

I have the post-war volume of Conway's All The Worlds Fighting Ships, but what else could I be looking at ?

It may sound a bit cliché, but the classic techno thrillers by Clancy, Dale Brown et al. might be good introduction. Red Storm Rising overall manages to explain modern naval and air tactics pretty well, especially the whole concept of EMCON.

Also Mark Joseph's books - Typhoon and To Kill the Potemkin - i read them a few years ago, and memory is they were strong on submarine strategy.

+1 on Dale Brown - the B52 in Flight of The Old Dog rocked.

I remember reading a thread somewhere recently on the best reference books - people lauded those authored by Dulin and Garzke as being the most thorough and accurate I think.

Larry Bond has quite a string of naval oriented tech thrillers

A recent favorite of mine is ... SIERRA HOTEL - Flying Air Force Fighters in the Decade After Vietnam

If you can, get a copy of "The Sixth Battle" from Barret Tillman. Is not in print anymore but there are a lot of used books for a few dollars in Amazon. Is the one I enjoyed the most.
