severe7 -> RE: LIVESTREAM Of Command! (11/26/2014 8:02:37 AM)

If you don't feel like playing a long mission I have a challenge for you.
Here are the rules:

AI side has 2 units, 1 nm from each other, skill level normal.
1.) #417 - RKR Petr Velikiy [Pr.1144 Orlan, Ex-Yuri Androvo] -- Russia [1992-] (Navy), 1999-0,
2.) #2128 - CG 70 Lake Erie [Ticonderoga Baseline 4, VLS] -- United States (Navy), 2012-0, SM-3, AEGIS BMD, SM-2MR Blk IV Anti-ASBM

All radars and jammers should be online, and no mission should be set for the ships.

These giant ships have to be sunk with a maximum of 30 aircraft, nothing more (and no rearming allowed).
Here the big hurdle, not more than two of the aircraft are allowed to be of the same kind.
In other words, you have to use 15 different kind of planes and/or loadouts and sink two of the most powerful ships on earth.

Additional rules:
Modifying the loadouts of planes is considered cheating.
So is using the 747 full of CALCs, and using nukes.
You can only use aircraft, nothing more.

Can you do this?

AlexGGGG -> RE: LIVESTREAM Of Command! (12/6/2014 11:02:18 PM)

severe7,

The solution is like this,
1. pick 28 aircraft (14 pairs) which can carry largest number of ARM missiles; HARMs or Kryptons,
2. add 2x B-2s with bombs

Launch all the SEAD aircraft and have them engage ships. After that, have them strafe the ships, with guns, kamikazi-style. This has the effect of all aircraft down but ships expending all their SAMs.

That was really smart, I've tried this multiple times, but never but never a pure HARM attack, I usually mix Anti ship missiles with my HARMs.

AlexGGGG -> RE: LIVESTREAM Of Command! (12/14/2014 9:49:22 AM)

What you are looking for in this type of attack is one of

1. Saturate their SAM capability in terms of illumination,
2. Make them expend all their missiles

Either of the above is achieved by sending in maximum possible number of "missile units" simultaneously.
I'm referring to "missile units", as kind of notional missiles, because we want to account for intercept probability.
See, let's say that defender spends exactly one SAM on a hypothetical type A ASM, and exactly three SAMs of hypothetical type B ASM.
Then, each A is one "missile unit", and each B is three "missile units", because defender spends three times more SAMs on type B incomings. This way, you are better off using aircraft loadout with 2x Type B missiles (6 "missile units") than 4x Type A missiles (4 "units").

Then it becomes just a matter of combining weapons and loadouts. By some quick testing I found that ARM (fast) requires much more SAMs than Harpoon (slow), and there are really not much available loadouts with 6x or 8x Harpoons, so I went with all ARMs.

If that is still not enough to deplete ship's SAMs, then I still have 28x aircraft, each taking at least one missile to be killed, and often more than one missile. That would be about 45 more SAMs expended by defender.

DWReese -> Jammers (1/2/2015 6:39:55 AM)

Baloogan,

I hate to keep bothering Mike, so I'll bother you for a second. <lol>

Can you give me some insight as to how the Iranian mobile jammers should work? Do you have a video?

I have discovered that if I place them in front of the Iranian SAM sites, in between the attacking AC and the SAMs, then the jammer inhibits the attacking AC from ever receiving the important info about a SAM launch being made. In short, often the incoming AC never sees the FCR light up. Additionally, most of the SAMs are not even observed by the AC until it is too late. The result is that many of my planes are being attacked without the targeted AC knowing that they are under attack, therefore losing their defensive mobility rating. They are almost always killed.

I am thinking about giving my attacking AC some jammer AC, too. Then my attacking AC would have offensive jammers to restrict the SAMs, and the ground units would have mobile jammers to mask the SAMs and the targets. What a mess!

Please tell me that you have a video on this topic. I have seen the simple and original one, but this seems to be much more involved than that.

It has been a BLAST messing around with electronic warfare.

Doug

Mgellis -> RE: Jammers (4/8/2015 3:33:06 PM)

One group of my students during the Winter term did a 20-minute presentation on "what makes a good Youtube channel" so I gave them the option, for extra credit, of doing a short (i.e., about 500 words) report on the Baloogan Campaign videos.

They were impressed with the depth of detail and the usefulness of the videos; the main area for improvement, they thought, was that the videos are sometimes a bit dry. Two things they thought might help would be to add humor where appropriate and to have other gamers join Baloogan as he comments on the scenarios (i.e., "guest stars").

(We know humor can work when talking about Command...http://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/poaw-commands-modern-air-and-naval-operations.230/ is a great example.)

One other thing they mentioned in their original presentation but did not mention in their extra credit report was that a lot of the most successful channels rely on shorter videos, usually less than 15 minutes, which lets people get the information and the entertainment without having to dedicate a big block of time (which they might not want to do and/or might not actually have in terms of free time).

I don't know if this information will be useful to Baloogan, but I promised them I would pass along their observations; I do think they make some good points.

If people don't like long videos then they can fast forward.

I only want Baloogan to change one thing. Start making some videos again! It's been a while. [:)]

Since I think what Baloogan is doing is really valuable and helpful, I certainly don't want to sound like I'm criticizing him. But I still think my students made some good points. Even if he's only interested in creating "instructional" videos, and does not care if they're entertaining or popular, some of their observations might prove helpful. For example, instead of going all the way through one scenario and talking about every aspect of it, which means he's got a series of videos that total a couple of hours, it might be better to edit all that footage down and create several short videos, each one focusing on a particular concept like "how to use laser-guided weapons" or "using prosecution zones" or "MiG-21s are outclassed by F-15s, but they can still kill your Eagles if you are not careful." (This also avoids the problem of "I don't want to fast forward...I might miss something important!")

And if he's trying to "win converts" and get more people to try Command, I think shorter videos might be less overwhelming. We don't want to scare them off before they're hooked for life, after all. :)

On that, my friend, we are in agreement! :)

Wow! I'm really flattered!

I fully agree with your students on all points. I, too, have thought about "what makes a good Youtube channel" and have come up with many of the same points.

I do think mgellis has a good point in that I should have some shorter videos; not everyone's attention spans are created equal.

I am making a new series of shorter videos, each focusing on a specific aspect of Command. A series of simple tutorial vids aimed at the Command beginner.

smudge56 -> RE: Jammers (4/10/2015 9:51:17 PM)

Lol liked the last comment about making more vids mate. Though some of your videos are from streams if they had noticed and we all had great fun hanging out and chatting that is still great. So for your tutorials perhaps 20mins long but the steams are streams and I for one enjoyed hanging out with everyone chatting anf having a laugh. So mate please don't stop doing that.

Look forward to seeing you mate and eveyone.
