Maesphil74 -> The unofficial quick Q&A thread (9/28/2013 8:53:58 PM)

Hi there,

This thread might be a good idea with a game as deep as this one.

I'll start off [8D]

Q: What's the number next to 'Civilized' in the Map Tool Tip? (eg Baltimore = "Civilized (75)")

thanks

Isn't that the rating of the province ranges from 1 to what ever?

Maesphil74 -> RE: The unofficial quick Q&A thread (9/28/2013 9:43:37 PM)

I guess its the number that determines the foraging. Not sure though as I cannot fond it on the manual...

It is mentioned in at least one spot, don't ask me where but I read it.

It is the development level of the region. Development levels are (form my memory, I may miss a level but that is not crucial):
Wild: 0-25
Cleared: 26-50
Civilized: 51-75
Rich: 76-100

Higher development regions can more easily be foraged for food, and provide easier movement. But you cannot expect an army to live on foraged food alone. You have to have supply depots bringing them supplies from interior.

When does the order to 'destroy' take place? For instance:

A cavalry unit is across the Potomac from Harper's Ferry. I want to destroy the railway
in Harper's. I move the unit to the target, then select the option to destroy the railway.
Have I ordered the destruction of the Harper's Ferry railroad, or did I inadvertently
order the destruction of the railway on my side of the Potomac?

Manual page 55:
To destroy a Depot or Fort, a Stack must start its move in the target region and
use the “Destroy Depot” and/or “Destroy Fort” Special Order. This will take
some time and will be resolved before any planned movement, so arriving
enemy may interfere.

For railway destroying it's the same!

Heres another one. I noticed today that on the lower side of the on map town /city icons there is sometimes a number 1 in a black diamond. What is the number in the black diamond for?

That one means the region has a lvl 1 pre war fort. Those you can destroy with the destroy fort special order.
Also redoubts from event ( to fortify Alexandria , Washinton and Richmond) get one of those diamonds, i bet the redoubts you make trought a "game card" ( decision) will add one too.
If the number in that black diamond is a 2 that means it is a 2 lvl fort, the ones you make with a supplys unit + 4 artillery units. Both forts are mentioned in pag 24 game manual.

Are merchant ships the same as ocean transport (they have very distinct icons)?

Can merchant ships be built by the Union?

Pocus -> RE: The unofficial quick Q&A thread (10/1/2013 10:00:54 AM)

no, merchant ships have also a special attribute that boost commerce

yes

USSLockwood -> RE: The unofficial quick Q&A thread (10/1/2013 4:47:47 PM)

Is the replacement rate cumulative? For example if a CSA irregular
was located in a city with a depot, would it's replacement rate per turn
be 40%, assuming replacements were available?
