K 19 -> Here's how to add new database photos and custom unit descriptions (9/29/2013 1:14:03 AM)

There don't seem to be any clear instructions on how to add new database photos and database custom unit descriptions. So I took it upon myself to figure it out. It's fairly simple, actually. Here's what I did.

Adding new database photos:

1. Inside the game, open the database viewer of the unit you want to add a photo to.

2. Look for the unit # at the very top. For example, Soviet submarine PLARB-658 Hotel I is #71. Make note of this number.

3. Now go into the game directory and find the folder with the database photos. For example- C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\DB\Images\CWDB. Choose the photo you want to add. Just make sure it's a .jpg file. Now rename it to the number of the unit you want to add it to. For example, the new Hotel I photo would be named Submarine_71.jpg

Example of the different unit types for photos:

Aircraft_1.jpg

Facility_1.jpg

Ship_1.jpg

Submarine_1.jpg

4. Now drop that new photo into the Images CWDB folder. It should now show up in the game's database. If you cannot see the new photo you added, try adding it to the C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\DB\Images\DB3000 folder instead.

Adding new database custom unit descriptions:

1. Inside the game, open the database viewer of the unit you want to add the custom text description to.

2. Look for the unit # at the very top. For example, Soviet submarine PLARB-658 Hotel I is #71. Make note of this number.

3. Now go into the game directory and find the folder with the database text descriptions. For example- C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\DB\Descriptions\CWDB. Create a new .txt file. Add the custom text to the text file. Now rename it to the number of the unit you want to add it to. For example, the new Hotel I text description file would be named Submarine_71.txt

Example of the different unit types for custom descriptions:

Aircraft_1.txt

Facility_1.txt

Ship_1.txt

Submarine_1.txt

4. Now drop that new text file into the Descriptions CWDB folder. It should now show up in the game's database. If you cannot see the new unit description you added, try adding it to the C:\Matrix Games\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\DB\Descriptions\DB3000 folder instead.

That's it. [:D]

Thanks! We had a similar how-to for our beta crew but this is clearer and more extensive.

Works as advertised. Good job.

my game folder \DB\CWDB is empty. Is it supposed to have images after game installation?

Or do all images need to be manually added from 3rd party sources?

Norton virus scan thinks that this file contains a virus??
----
Filename: dbimages.exe
Threat name: WS.Reputation.1

Origin
Downloaded from http://www.warfaresims.com/temp/DBImages.exe
Threat type: Insight Network Threat. There are many indications that this file is untrustworthy and therefore not safe

False alarm. The AV considers it suspicious because it has a low reputation (ie. it has not been downloaded and marked safe by gazillions of people).

Just doing unit descriptions and texts for the CWDB.
I'm up to the BBs with pictures.
Is there any intellectual property pitfalls to be taken care of?
I largely use Wikipedia and Navsource which should be OK with a mod, I think.

something to keep in mind

thewood1 -> RE: Here's how to add new database photos and custom unit descriptions (9/26/2014 12:23:00 AM)

Wasn't sure where to put this...

I am slowly putting description files. Here are the first 100 or so. I am going to peck away at it in alphabetical order. I am using mostly wikipedia. My format is as follows:

General description in a 1-3 paragraphs
Then a description of the variant, like A-7D
The user description that has any specific information on a user country that might be relevant.

I'll continue to peck away and load 100 or so at a time.

OK, no one seems interested in this. I won't bother uploading any more. I'll just keep pecking away at it.
