Der Zeitgeist -> [ADDED B529] Decluttering grouped airfields (10/5/2013 11:52:52 AM)

In building my scenarios, I have come across an inconvenience when building up airfields from individual structures, and then grouping them together to form a functioning airfield.

For the side in a scenario that is owning the airfields, the view can be switched to show groups, and the "blob" of buildings forms into a nice and compact airfield symbol on the map. The other side however, does not seem to be able to show enemy facilities as single group symbols, and the airfields simply form a confusing cluster of red on the map, making it difficult to see what it is exactly (like discerning it from seaports, for example), and making it even more difficult to identify separate units that are close to the facility, like SAM sites.

Can we get the option to show enemy (as well as neutral, friendly and unfriendly) facilities as single grouped symbols, when they are auto-detectable? That would greatly improve the situational awareness, especially in larger scenarios with lots of land facilities.

While your there when we clone something like an ammo unit can the clone take along the ammo type and quantity with it

How about a set of filters so we can choose what to display in terms of landbased contacts

I would go so far as to ask for a broad set of filters...

Land units
Carriers
Aircraft in flight
Helicopters
Bombers
Fighters
etc.

That woul quickly help you find needed units

It could lead to a support nightmare for us as well. Lot of missing unit posts.

Other games do this regularly...I would think you could handle it.

Not saying no just giving you some insight as to how we think about things.

How about just the decluttering for grouped enemy facilities then? Harpoon 2 and 3 had this, if I remember correctly.

To show what I mean, here's two pictures, one as seen playing from the side owning the facilities, the other from the enemy side. For the enemy side, it's not immediately visible that the blob of units is an airfield.

Yea, let the player group enemy contacts and only show individual units when the group is selected or in Unit view. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Cheers,
JP

I like this idea a lot.

Also, if you attach reference points to a group they should behave similar to units that are added to a group i.e. they should only be shown when the group is selected. I am sure this would help a lot with decluttering the screen when using relative refpoint formations. I am sure there would be some more work required to make it all work in the end, but might be worth the effort.

Cheers,
JP

A option to zoom a selected area to fit screen would be nice too. Would help declutter group from its units but also to better vuslize congested areas not part of a group.

Zoom area could be selected similar to right click define area.
