Plenty of games to chew over. Thanks for all of the info gents.

I've played a few, mostly by vassal.

B-29. Fairly good but very few decisions to make and it often feels like an excercise in dice rolling.
Silent War. My first experience with a solo wargame and it was a monster. Also a lot of fun if you can handle the recordkeeping and fact you're playing both strategic and tactical roles.
Steel Wolves. Like Silent War but more so IMO. A lot of detail and things to track with a more complicated set up for convoys etc.
Where There is Discord. My favourite by a long shot. It's fairly involved and often needs you to 'be' different people. I've played a dozen or so games and each one has been different, ranging from a close run thing to absolute victory (or defeat). It's not easy (or cheap) to aquire though.

My pre-order Where there is discord has been 'in preparation' for about 3 years. But it is promised any week now. + Check out Codeword Cromwell from the same designer.

I'm looking at Cromwell. I managed to get my copy of where there is discord second hand but unused for 80 euros including postage from Denmark. The other guy was looking to trade it but was happy to get back what he paid for it. I got lucky on that one!

I've asked for Fields of Fire 2 for Xmas..obviously wont be out by then but will get it next year..was a toss up between Vol1 or Vol2.Though I like the sound of fighting Germans in Vol 1 2edition, the urban warfare set in Vietnam hue city (full metal jacket anyone?) swung it for me, plus it makes a change as I rarely play WW2 Pacific and also playing as the Marines is a bonus so Vol 2 it was, oh and Chosin in Korea.. I also really like the look of Fire in the Lake.

Bought Arkham Horror yesterday. Sadly no solo tactical wargames were published in Poland.

That's a really cool game that I have but have only been able to play alone so far. Prepare to spend an afternoon or two just figuring out all the rules.

Solo play is fun, I use 3 investigators so that there is a chance of winning, while keeping things manageable. I approach it as more of a role-playing sort of game than strictly trying to win.

Just played my first complete solo game. Oh God, this game is cruel XD . 8 gates and then fighting with one of the old ones. The old one had a special rule that made me test for losing each item. I failed every test XD . And I was playing a scientific worker, so I had only 3 of fighing stat. I got destroyed in three rounds. Oh and I forgot that closing gates should remove some monsters :/ . I tend to forget about it.

My first Arkham Horror game was in a boardgame club about a year. It was a 3 player game. We won after about 3 hours of playing. Never got to play it there again.

It's an awesome game. My only problem with it is the size of the board. The only place I can put it on is my bed (it's a bit too big for the kitchen table and the length of the game would interfere with other things to do in kitchen). Playing for so long while kneeling is rather uncomfortable. I can forget about using Dunwich and Innsomouth expansions since I have no place for them.

It's a very absorbing game. A great way to calm down after the struggle of reality.
