Geckomeister_MatrixForum -> Naval Books (10/9/2013 6:16:17 AM)

Hi Guys,

I am interested in buys some Naval warfare books.
Would especially like to get Friedman 5th Edition as has been mentioned in the forum.

Are there any other must have books that have alot of ship,aircraft, sub information that covers
units in Command?
Are there any that have high quality color technical pictures showing side/front/rear/top views of each of the units?

Lastly, are there any books that are good around naval warfare tactics?

Cheers
Gecks

As far as the best all around modern naval tactics book, look at CAPT Wayne Hughes' Fleet Tactics and Coastal Combat, 2nd ed. Milan Vego's Soviet Naval Tactics is also very good. ADM Sandy Woodward's One Hundred Days: The Memoirs of the Falkland Battle Group Commander is an excellent case study of the operational level of modern naval warfare.

Just reading Hughes and that is a great book! Very well written and also very informative.
Woodward's book is gripping, but more atmospheric on the mindset of a Battle Group Commander than informative of how to handle such a group yourself in CMANO.
Naval Strategy and Operations in Narrow Seas also by Vego is also a good book.

All my naval data books are pre-1995ish, so I've broken down and ordered The Naval Institute Guide to Combat Fleets of the World, 2002-2003. It's the only one I could get that was a reasonable price for me.
