siRkid -> The Zoom Feature (1/18/2003 4:39:45 AM)

I am interested in knowing how many players are using this option.

It is used so rarely it took until version 2.20 before someone noticed a bug: range circles don’t re-size when you zoom in. A circle that had a 5 hex range on the regular map may only show a 2 or 3 hex range on the zoomed-in map.

I never use it.

Speaking of range circles, Yamamoto - I noticed that even on the main map they're unreliable. I only just realized that Kavieng is in range of B25's from PM even though Rabaul is beyond their reach - However, Rabaul is inside the circle and Kavieng is outside. It's a hex limitation I guess. Another reason why a distance gauge would be very useful in these games.

Clicked it once hoping I was zoomed in to get more of the map only to find out I was NOT zoomed in ... never touched since.

I guess it might be subjective to ones monitor size ... I either play on my laptop or my 21" Sony so zoom is not really much of a requirement for me... Some 15" monitors might actually require it as a mandatory feature.

Running at 1024 x 768 ... how about a zoom OUT button instead? :D

m0ngoose -> Yes! (1/18/2003 4:56:45 AM)

Frag- that's a great idea! A zoom-OUT button. I play on a 21-in monitor at 1024-768 and there's no reason I can't handle half the theatre at once...

Or how about even finer resolutions? 1280x1024?

Just a thought...

The zoom helps at times to understand the terrain. For example is it a peninsula or an island. Otherswise I stick to the zoomed out view see more of the map.

Nikademus -> (1/18/2003 6:25:53 AM)

i find it useful occasionally though one thing i dont like about it is the bluring of the map text that results.

"It's a hex limitation I guess. Another reason why a distance gauge would be very useful in these games."

Thats why computer games don't need hexes.

A hex is made up of 6 corners and one center. Thats 7 points.

Now fill the hex with 43 points and you have 50 points.

Now remove the hex sides. And cover the map in these points.

Distance is measured between points. The more points the more flexibility the game has.

That, people, is the knee jerk reaction of and old boardgame fan.:D I like hexes too but they are no longer "REALLY" necessary.:) Going to get a blast for that, I think.:cool:

GunRange -> (1/18/2003 10:06:27 PM)

Something without hexes CAN NOT be a good game! Really!

Look what you did!! Now I dropped my walking stick!

Oh, remember those AH games that came with a 2 yard range stick and there were no hexes ... He musta fainted opening one of those up! :D :D :D

mbatch729 -> Almost never (1/19/2003 9:33:51 AM)

Mostly because of the blurring that occurs. I know that happens when you magnify digitally, and I understand the constraints(time and cost) of not having multiple maps of different scales. Rarely use it. On the other hand, a zoom OUT button would be nice. Especially on something as massive as WiTP ;)

Already done in WITP!:D

But with linitations - no tactical data. We are using it for another new feature.
