In SP Squad Leader 1.1 the new features included sea planes and torpedo planes. I dint try them at the time.(i got SPSL1.1 for the cavalry enhancements)How do these plane types function in SPW@W?

Paul Vebber -> (4/25/2000 11:51:00 PM)

They are not there.

Not to contradict my friend and highly esteemed colleague, Paul Vebber, but there are aircraft of every variety imaginable. The Kate, Devastator, Swordfish, and Avenger are there. Their role, however, is not naval in the sense of attacking ships. Instead they are used as high level bombers to attack enemy positions. I think you'll be amazed at how many different types of aircraft you will find in this game. I have never counted them, but there have to be well over 60 different aircraft from all nations from 1930-1949. Any Naval action in the game is limited to amphibious assaults. About the only on-board navy you'll find are German E-Boats. YOu will find a plethora of many different kind of landing craft and transports for beach assaults. Yes...but they are not represented in SP:WaW like the Seaplanes (that could land in the water on the map) or torpedo planes (that dropped torpedos) like there were in SP:SL. We don't have user "flyable" airplanes that used the helicopter class anymore, and teh torpedoes could be used like tomahawk cruise missiles against land targets, so I deleted them from the OOBS. I guess I read the question as "will Seaplanes and Torpedo Bombers behave like they did in SP:WaW? THat is the question I answered correctly. Hey I survived college on partial credit from giving a great answer to the wrong question :-) WB is right that many of the aircraft types are in the game, but they function like regular aircraft that you target for, and watch them fly in and attack and then leave.

Thanks for the information.You did answer the right question. I was thinking about the way they behaved not just their inclusion. If I may risk another aircraft question what about the Drache helicopter? Their was an Advanced SPWW2 add on which included it but it was for the first version of SPWW2 which I did'nt have. I had to wait until it worked with a SP3 cd.Well worth the wait.

No - we added some "experimental" things (seems you just gotta have a Maus these days :-), but tried to stay focused on the bread and butter equipment that was used. We have an OOB editor included, we knew it was likely that those sorts of "Advanced SP:WaW" add-ons will come out. Even with just the "normal" stuff the OOB editing has become a major time sink...:-) As OOB director I'm more than happy to let the Advanced..." folks get their due for adding this cool "what -if" stuff in! The whole point of SP:WaW is to try to get a new crop of gamers, many of whom these days shy away form DOS based stuff, a chance to see why the SP series has the following and longevity it does! I'm happy with that. It is a good thing to leave room for others to do some small extras. As for the Maus the only time i played with one in SPWW2 it was surrounded by russian infantry and the crew bailed out.In tanks I prefer less armour and more speed.

Talking about some "experimental" things (seems you just gotta have a Maus these days :-)," Are we going to find the Tortise (& 32 pdr/ converted 3.7" AA gun) and what ever the US called their (super) heavy tank (& converted 105 mm AA gun). What about the various German secret weapons? (I'm thinking of the infantry SAM - Luftfaust -B (Air Fist) in particular

Hi This may be just a silly idea, but could it be possible to include a feature to manage easily sets of OOBs, and/or to update OOB with new vehicles without having to replace the whole file. Practically, it would be nice to be able to update standard units in OOB without having to redo one's particular mods. If one's have the habit to add JS-Ib, 85mm AA-Gun and Captured Panther into the Russian OOB, it becomes fastidious to re-add them for every oob update that comes out. I think a nice feature could b the update of units that were not modified when a new oob comes out, or a way to choose which units will/won't be allowed for updating. I think every one at matrix has already a lot of work with this game and others, so just take this idea for a genuine wish, but maybe it could be useful. (and please forgive my bad english). Thanks.

Paul Vebber -> (4/28/2000 3:09:00 AM)

Unfortunately the format is not set up that way. You have to exchange the whole file (some of which are chakablock with units) to access new units.

ok, i guess i'll have to play with OOB editors once again Thanks However i'm sure this version will be GREAT ! And it's now to be released in 10 days !
