hondo1375 -> How much of a challenge is the AI? (10/15/2013 7:20:07 PM)

I'm thinking about getting this game, but I want to make sure it provides a challenging single player experience. So, how much of a challenge does the AI provide?

It's the most challenging AI I've ever played against. In 41 years of wargaming.

Good Hunting.

it will cheerfully rip your head off ... it adjusts to your moves, sets traps and makes full use of the options. Most scenarios you need to play 2-3 times (on each side) to eke out anything more than the most marginal of wins.

I admittedly have only played the tutorial, but playing from the NATO side wasn't very hard at all. And I'm not a good player. Of course, the regular scenarios may be different...

So far AI looks very good and is unpredictable.
In fact, I don't have the impression to play against a machine and I'm always surprised by the development of the games I played.
I really enjoy it.

It's a good AI, or rather, the AI in the game works well with the game system to create an enjoyable player experience. Which, after all, is what the goal is, not Deep Blue theoretical awesomeness. Sometimes you will win easily. Sometimes you will die horribly. Sometimes--often--it's a muddled mess on the battlefield. Sort of like reality.

It's pretty good, it doesn't do the exact same thing each time. I have actually scored lower on follow up tries of the same scenario. It's also very active which makes it fun. It goes after your HQ's with a vengeance ... artillery and airstrikes if they're in the scenario. It will probe forward and sometimes shift in another direction Only real negative I see is, at times, it may continue into kill zones that a human might abandon but I'd rather it be too aggressive than too passive.
The scenarios are really challenging; some of the best I've played. It's a Great single player experience IMHO

It kicks my butt regularly -- but without unfairly tilting the rules. I think that the only rule-handicap I get is that I get a limited # of orders per turn (this setting can be disabled) and the AI has unlimited orders.

jack54, we have beat on the AI and upped the gain on those kill zones to have it plot around or away if it can (bridges and VP locations may still force it to drive into hot hexes. I'm going to flag the issue and see if we can tweak it a tad more.

It's not broke Capn... it's just the only negative I could find. [;)]

That's only if you choose to fight with limited orders for you. You select that option. The AI does not use a cheat or have any other built in advantages.

Good Hunting.

Oh, I know. I love that option. But by doing that I know that the computer has a rules-advantage.

Mad Russian -> RE: How much of a challenge is the AI? (10/16/2013 1:10:31 AM)

That's my favorite way to play. I don't get to play that way often but I did the playtesting on that option.

Now that the scenarios are done I can play them with the limited orders option like the rest of you!! [&o]

Good Hunting.
