The Red Baron -> Leader Activation (10/16/2013 12:43:19 PM)

What happens when leader activation is mixed in a stack; e.g. when the corps commander is active but one or more of his division commanders is not? The corps commander can initiate offensive action but what about inactive division commanders? Do they follow the corps commander's lead or will they sit idle during battle? Do they participate in a battle but at a penalty?

What about the reverse; e.g. when a corps commander is inactive but his division commanders are active? What happens in this situation?

it all depends.

If you have a corps stack, then the command level that really matters is the Corps commander. So if active, the corps will move and fight, if inactive then it will move but not attack.

One wrinkle its worth bearing in mind is that if you have an inactive corps and you really need to attack - usually an assault on a fort, then pull out any active divisional commanders and order them to do the deed. You obviously lose the corps bonus but this can be better than waiting for a corps to activate if you really want to take a small fort.

I thought of that. With the clock ticking and the AI entrenching, I was becoming frustrated waiting for the all my generals to activate so I could proceed with the attack. I thought of dumping my divisions into Grant's army stack to just get on with it, even though I would loose the corps' commander's bonus.
