Paulus Pak -> Sound error (10/16/2013 1:21:58 PM)

To make it short - I can't play with music and sound turned on. When launching the game I get first error dealing with playing Main Theme.wav file (attached screenshot "music error.jpg"). Main Theme.wav is in place (FPCRS\Assets\Audio\), I can replay it in WinAmp or in Windows Media Player.
Then after launching the scenario I get repeteable "IDirectSoungBuffer not made" error (attached screenshot "directsoungbuffer error.jpg). Game is not freezed but all I can is to click indifinitely on this error or close the game from the manager.
Game is working without problems with all the sounds and music turned off (after restarting FPCRS).
I can add that I've already reinstalled both the game and directx and it didn't help.

Paulus, sorry for the trouble. I willget this bug pushed up to our programmer and see if we can get a fix for this. Thanks for the additional screen shots. They do help.

Khaax01 -> RE: Sound error (10/17/2013 1:02:20 AM)

Hi, just to add I have exactly the same issue as Paulus with same error messages/dialogue.

In addition to game re-installation I have upgraded sound/video drivers to latest version.

Running under Win XP 32 bit, bootcamped iMac. Graphics/video card is ATI 4850 512MB

Cheers,
Bob

Albion99,

Any chance you are running with Polish localizations? Just kidding. Seems to be some directx and XP issue with our direct sound components. Can you get us a DXDiag file?

Sorry for the headache, we'll see what we can do to fix this.

Paulus Pak -> RE: Sound error (10/17/2013 6:14:32 AM)

Albion, did You installed any windows updates lately? I think that between 10/10 and 10/13 there was a bunch of updates available for XP.
Jim, do You need me to translate something from Polish? [:D]

CapnDarwin -> RE: Sound error (10/17/2013 12:24:59 PM)

Is everyone on an XP laptop? I'm looking for a common theme and XP OS is one item. Now we had a tester or two with XP and no indication of a problem of this level. I guess we can add the update question here too. Did you other guys have a recent update? I will chat with our XP testers and see if they are on a laptop or recently updated or sound crashing.

Thanks for your patience.

CapnDarwin -> RE: Sound error (10/17/2013 1:04:13 PM)

Guys,

Please try the following with your games and let me know the results. This is from a Matrix Tech guru.

In the helpdesk, when I want a player to reinstall DirectX on his system, I usually ask him to download the DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010). This is not the web version but the SDK version. This way I ensure that they will install the full version. I've read in some forums that the web version sometimes don't install all the files. if that's true or not I really don't know.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

When you run the downloaded file it will extract the files to a folder of the player choice. Then I ask the player to open that folder on the HD and locate a file named "DXSETUP.exe and run it."

This may offset whatever the update did or replace or add a missing or bad file.

It could be also helpful to post your DxDiag report file.

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. click on "START" (on Windows 8 Press "Windows Key" + "R" and go to 3)
2. click "run" (on Windows 8 skip this step)
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
6. attach to your message

I have a desktop PC.
I will try the SDK version of directx, i've indeed used a web version.

Khaax01 -> RE: Sound error (10/17/2013 10:25:11 PM)

Hi guys.

Downloading the full directx sdk today, unfortunately won't be able to run and test anything till the weekend. I think that I took all the XP updates last week, but can't remember specifically (set to automatic update so should have), I'll check.

DxDiag attached.

Cheers.

Paulus Pak -> RE: Sound error (10/18/2013 10:49:42 AM)

Reinstalling directx from sdk version didn't help.

Khaax01 -> RE: Sound error (10/18/2013 11:17:19 AM)

Just been testing - without re-installing directx sdk and might have an indication of problem. I got the game going - to the deployment screen at least - without sound errors.

Looks like the problem may be with the 'Theme' music volume slider or setting on the User Preferences tab ..

Cases:

1. Launched game after cold boot - game launched fine, but no main theme played. No error messages, able to select and launch scenario. Checked User preferences - 'Theme' sound slider set to 0 (?) - far left. Other sound sliders to max - far right. Repeated this 3 times (with different scenarios and different settings for other sound sliders - not touching theme) - no problem.

2. After 3 successful launches, moved 'Theme' slider to mid point. Closed game to desktop. Started game - 'error playing main theme' dialogue. Click OK. Get to next screen, check User Preferences, 'Theme' slider now to far left, other sliders not changed. Select scenario, launch scenario, ID Sound error - exit via Task Manager.

3. Launched game again - same main theme error. Click OK, go to User preferences, explicitly move theme slider around - but finishing back to far left (i.e set it to 0). Exit game - do not launch scenario.

4. Launch game again - back to Case 1, everything works (at least to deployment, didn't play beyond that).

Phew. Hopefully someone can replicate that ...

Cheers

CapnDarwin -> RE: Sound error (10/18/2013 11:30:48 AM)

Albion99, thanks for the update and that should help us out a lot. One question. Did you play far enough to get any in game sounds from unit movement or combat?

Can the other guys having a problem also test this out? I know the themes are at a different bit rate from the sound effects so we may be on to something here.

Khaax01 -> RE: Sound error (10/18/2013 11:44:12 AM)

Yup - just played a a few turns of 'a time to dance' - movement and firing sounds worked.

Paulus Pak -> RE: Sound error (10/18/2013 12:20:50 PM)

I confirm Albion's findings. With Theme sound turned off game works without problems. Just played an entire turn of "A Time to Dance" (NATO version), some 39 minutes of game time, all movement and combat sounds work just fine.

CapnDarwin -> RE: Sound error (10/18/2013 12:29:28 PM)

Awesome! What I can do from here is do a set of themes remastered at the lower bit rate to match the sfx files and see if those work for you guys. Then figure out the best way to fix the installer to use the correct versions.

bennetpom, If you get a chance to test this, let us know if it works for you as well.

Thanks guys!!

bennettpom -> RE: Sound error (10/19/2013 12:02:07 AM)

[:)]Works now if turn down theme music to lowest setting all other sounds set medium/high.
Thank you

Very impressed by immediate response and problem solving.

Now back to getting butt kicked by PC[8|]

CapnDarwin -> RE: Sound error (10/19/2013 12:24:25 AM)

The main theme was the culprit with an incompatible bit rate to come audio codices. The will be resolved in the 2.01 patch. Thanks for hanging in there.
