british exil -> maps (10/16/2013 10:36:40 PM)

Just playing the Black Horse mission. Reading my briefing, it states tht I should engage the enemy on Route 285, my question is: Where is Route 285? Any key to see the info on my map? I know soldiers who moved in these areas did have massive maps that showed terrain and all roads large and small. Esp with Route numbers, grid references etc. Am I missing something?

I admit I have not read the manual, waiting for my boxed version to enjoy the coloured manual.

I guess my problem is that I thought gamers would read the briefings.

Stockheim and Nordheim von der Rhon are on the map. Then there's the Victory Point locations telling you where your objectives are.

To have put the minor rivers and route numbers was thought to clutter the map too much and for very little gain.

Maybe that idea was wrong.

Good Hunting.

Well you don't have to put in all of the route and river names, but if its referred to in the mission briefing, it sure seems reasonable to tell people where it is!

british exil -> RE: maps (10/16/2013 10:58:53 PM)

I did read the briefing, there are two routes that have VP along it. There is nothing worse than sitting on the route waiting to ambush the enemy, only to find yourself sitting on the wrong route, having to rush towards the other route and step into a major ambush. Oh and getting yourself and all that follow killed. [:D]

I can play the game, see if I was right. If not play and plot the ambush on the other route.

It would be nice to be able to scroll around the map whilst reading the briefing, or to include a map in the briefing where the routes/ objectives, or from what area the enemy is coming from, could be highlighted.

Played the scenario and was as feared caught with my pants down on the wrong route. Held out as best as I could till my reinforcements came through to help, the Soviet armour was just too strong and cut through my screen of mech inf like butter.

Oh well, I had fun and the next battle will be better, I hope.

Yes, I'll see about going back in and putting more data on the maps. Probably too late to get much of that done before the next release.

Good Hunting.

You guys tell me.

How many roads to you see between Stockheim and Nordheim von der Rhon on this map?

Marking it with a route number seems to me to be no better than telling you the Soviets are on that road.

Or is there something I'm missing?

Good Hunting.

british exil -> RE: maps (10/17/2013 2:36:19 AM)

MR I had no Soviets on that road, well none that I saw. I had a unit of Bradleys and a Humvee just north of Nordheim ready to blow the bridge, the Bradleys ended up firing across the river at the Russian armour that was moving west then at the next junction moved north only because I scattered mines to hold them up.

The recon moved through the road in the forest, not on your screenshot, on the North of the map. Held up with US armour and mech inf. Eventually wiped out.

I did notice at the end of the scenario, that there were two exit hexes. I noticed Russian vehicles moving up my left flank, moved mech inf to block the route they were taking, but at the end of the scenario they were gone.

Maybe I was just lost for the first time on this map, but at first I just saw roads and towns. I know if a little number was on the main route I'd know where to head for, but as no one has really "complained" I assume it was only my problem.

Grim.Reaper -> RE: maps (10/17/2013 2:45:46 AM)

Although some things might be obvious to some, I would support adding more names and detail especially to key objects on the screens such as routes. Can only further help those that need it. In another recently released game, they don't include names of countries and key areas and it becomes harder to locate things that could be solved with names on the map. I know this is not the same as in this game, but just an example of making things easier for people who might need the help. Can't hurt.

wodin -> RE: maps (10/17/2013 2:52:28 AM)

Have them as a hotkey?

CapnDarwin -> RE: maps (10/17/2013 2:58:55 AM)

Wodin, currently the names are part of the map art.

Mad Russian -> RE: maps (10/17/2013 3:01:34 AM)

Mat,

The entire reason for a briefing is to get you information that isn't readily ascertainable by simply looking at the map.

What did you think, "Reports have lead elements going through Stockheim at this very moment", means?

It means that is the last known location of the Soviet lead combat elements. They are in Stockheim and they are headed to Nordheim von der Rhon. To me that's a simple assumption. Obviously, I wrote it. I thought it was clear enough to give you an idea of where to expect the Soviet forces.

Now, having said all that, there are times when Intel is just flat wrong. You should trust your own intel. You put out the recon screen, as you should have. Rely on what they find for you and react to that.

Good Hunting.

british exil -> RE: maps (10/17/2013 3:31:14 AM)

I should never have trust the green slime, as the british army call the intel service.
As I said maybe I was just to new to the gamr to really know what to do, I hope as I play more often I will learn to read the briefing more clearly and stud the map a little better, maybe try to gooogle maps or google earth to get more intel.

I know you want us to point things out, that might be a bit nclaer to us. I was not complaining, ony a bit lost.

Mad Russian -> RE: maps (10/17/2013 3:40:27 AM)

I'll go back in and add the routes where they are in the briefings as that would get you guys in the right area quicker.

Yes, we do want to get comments.

Good Hunting.

Lord_Stanley -> RE: maps (8/23/2016 3:12:36 PM)

Are maps with the correct road network for the time period represented in the game available anywhere?

CapnDarwin -> RE: maps (8/23/2016 4:17:00 PM)

William's maps from the player's edition should be that way or very close. He can give a better answer when he comes back from vacation.

Mad Russian -> RE: maps (8/23/2016 4:35:50 PM)

All the maps have been redone in the current state of the game.

Route numbers were one of the first things we added.

Good Hunting.
