ipe -> [ADDED B898] No radar altitude limit (10/19/2013 3:22:55 PM)

Hi
I tried some things in scenario and realized that there is no altitude limit in air search radars. For example i could detect U-2s or SR-71s flying altitudes more than 25000m with pretty much every radar.

Radars i tested were
Giraffe 40 (altitude limit <5km)
Giraffe AMB (altitude limit about 20km)
HARD 3D (ASRAD-R) (altitude limit <10km)

Reported. Thanks!

I dont know if this has any effect on game but it seems at least in Baloogan's online database viewer that maximum altitude is in nautical miles. Example finnish Giraffe 100 maximum altitude is 20500 nm. Values for maximum altitude seems to be quite good in many radars but this Giraffe 100 its about 10 km not 20,5 km and it doesnt have surface search mode.

Same thing with missile cruise altitude they are in kg.

And also if you want i can help with Finnish units. Ive notised that place names are in swedish also Giraffe 100 real FDF name is LÄVA (Lähivalvontatutka) for air force and MOSTKA 95 (Maalinosoitustutka 95) for army not Målspaningsradar 95. Other Giraffe model used by FDF is Giraffe 75 not 40 and its name is MOSTKA 87M (Maalinosoitustutka 87M) M stands for modernized.

Ah, this is most likely me just copying and pasting things incorrectly. I had to guess at the units for most things, and when I finally got around to the Weapon and Sensor pages I was running out of steam. [:)]

Things I'd like to also do is list all figures in meters in both feet and meters.

He screwed up. Lets get him!

When I initially read this (quickly), my brain interpreted it as "My like-to-do list measures in feet and metres" [:)]

Baloogan's to-do list IS measured in feet and meters [:D]

Casinn -> RE: No radar altitude limit (3/11/2014 1:56:01 AM)

Baloogan's "already done" list is measured in feet and metres. hah

False

It's miles or kilometers

guanotwozero -> RE: No radar altitude limit (3/11/2014 5:05:51 AM)

Light years! Parsecs! The curvature of space-time can be analysed by measuring Baloogan's list!

Thanks guys! [:D]

...More to come too!

Few years have past and i was wondering have you done anything about this. I tested it again with same effect. Radars that have <10 km altitude coverage can still detect and track targets that are flying above 20 km.

Have you considered changing this soon or have you just forgotten or is there something in game engine that makes it hard to correct? Command simulates alot of things but seems odd that there is this kind of flaw.

ComDev -> RE: No radar altitude limit (12/14/2015 1:14:05 PM)

Known shortcoming, and it's on the to-do list [:D]

Thanks!

ipe -> RE: No radar altitude limit (12/14/2015 2:04:38 PM)

Hmm... For few years now?

No rush.[:D]

mikmykWS -> RE: No radar altitude limit (12/14/2015 5:11:55 PM)

We're doing our best.

Thanks

Dimitris -> RE: No radar altitude limit (12/31/2016 1:40:46 PM)

Added in Build 898.
