Toby123 -> Two DW Installations (10/21/2013 10:49:04 PM)

Is it possible to have 2 installations of DW on a computer? I currently play and very much enjoy Legends. I would like to get Shadows, but would like to put it to a different folder so that I can have the "vanilla" Legends and the Shadow expansion. It is a quirk with me, but sometimes I just like tried and true.

I tried to do so by installing one to C\Matrix and then to C\Matrix2 (or some such). It did not work. Did I do some thing wrong? Or should it be to the effect of c\Matrix\DistantWorlds and c\Matrix\DistantWorlds2? Or is it just not possible with DW?

Thanks,

Toby

no.
hint: registry
hintN2: save folder

As far as I know you can just copy the legends install to another folder, and patch one of them with shadows. It does not depend on registry.

And save folders are no problem at all, since they default to saving in a folder with the version number as name. Which is why saves appear lost when patching.

Testing it is free, only risk is a bit time wasted :)

It is possible, just need to bear in mind when you first install it to put the start menu entry in its own folder or the uninstall can fail and you will need to delete the reg entries and delete the folders manually. I did it with Legends and Shadows, Legends to the default c:/ and Shadows to c:/program files, problem was for me that once you have played Shadows you do not want to go back and play Legends [8|]

Thanks for the info. When I finish the insane work hours, I will give it a go. It should be finished this week...

I run two installs, the key is just to make a copy into a folder with a different name and go into that folder and find its specific .exe file and make a renamed shortcut to it on the desktop.

Example: Folder DW2 in the matrix main folder, and a DW2 shortcut that points to the .exe in the DW2 folder.

Works fine for me.
