Blu3wolf -> F16 Little Buddy? (10/23/2013 6:04:23 PM)

G'day!

I have noticed that in Lightning Strike, my F16s appear to have infinite Little Buddies (ALE-50).

the DB lists them as having 4 of the decoys, and I had thought they only had 2, although I could be mistaken on that.

what I am NOT mistaken about is that they should be deducted when used to spoof a missile - and at present, they are not.

Decoy (AN/ALE-50; Tech: Late 1990s) is attempting to seduce sensor: Active Radar Seeker (Tech: Late 1990s)(Guiding weapon: PL-12 #1281). Final probability: 35%. Die Roll: 9 - SUCCESS

shows up in the message log, but afterwards the F-16 still has the same number of ALE-50 "ammo" loaded in the weapons screen. all of the ones I have checked always seem to show 3/4 decoys available...

The ALE-50 is a towed decoy. As such, it has a certain probability of being lost when deployed against an incoming weapon, but it is possible that it will survive and be re-used.

can you provide some data on the survivability of the ALE-50 vs say an R-77?

its not that I dont believe you, its just that... well actually that is exactly it.

Probably be pretty hard to provide data on 2 systems that haven't been used in combat against one another.

I understand the decoy will offer the missile a more tempting target. Although the missile will attempt to engage it, the chanse of actually hittig og trigging the prox fuze is pretty small.
