We did ask this, last saturday.

I'll quote the CEO: "we'll never give any information on sales". I don't think you'll get an answer on that one...

Neilster -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/28/2013 11:35:29 AM)

I was thinking generally. That is, level of interest etc

Cheers, Neilster

DSWargamer -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/28/2013 1:35:47 PM)

Sales figures are like demos, you know everyone wants the details, and yet, odds are you never get any value out of offering the details.

And like a lot of arguments based on statistics, chances are there will be people that will continue to argue their case even after you provide the specifics :)

I'd be ok with hearing, 'we had a good time'. You know, like met a lot of faces, the local food was great at lunch and nothing bad happened.

wodin -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/28/2013 1:44:07 PM)

I would be surprised if more than 10 where bought..no reviews on stability etc..a big risk to buy. I'm sure if all 50 went it would have been announced by now as a massive success..

shaddock -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/28/2013 2:13:47 PM)

From the forums here, we know at least 3 were sold. I'm curious what the first impressions are of the package, any problems so far with the software, etc.?

AxelNL -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/28/2013 7:04:40 PM)

I have been reading the first manual at my leisure on Sunday. I stopped reading the PDF after a couple of pages 2 months ago, but the beautifull bounded version reads almost like a good book. The advice on how to play is very interesting, and this WiF5 player learned a couple of things.

The booth was small but attractive, the folks from Slitherine nice and very much acting in their national characteristics :-)
With 2 large Dutchmen acting also in their national characteristics there was not much space for others ;-), it was good fun though. And having a "home base" for our bags was nice as well.

The trade fair itself was huge and very, very busy. I was able to pick up a fine second hand version of AH's Kingmaker for a small price, just for memory lane sake which was a nice bonus.

The maps survived their travel pretty wel. I only have one place on the corner of one fold just below Iceland which has a small white spot. We'll see if I find that nasty enough to have a Dutch/Scottish conversation about that.

Cheers,

Lex

JDM -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/28/2013 7:11:50 PM)

Well for the record it was a massive success and thankfully we did not have to ship these substantial packs back to the UK

AxelNL -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/28/2013 7:46:55 PM)

Good to hear JD, and thank your son for reserving our 3 copies. Hopefully you had one left to send to Steve.
And many thanks for believing in this product in 2010, so that it finally could see daylight this year.

Cheers,

Lex

In that case I predict that the final price for the game will be moved slightly higher than previously planned ... if the market wants what you have then you are a fool not to charge a premium.
(That's an observation - not a complaint)

wodin -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/29/2013 4:47:19 PM)

50 sold and I can't find one opinion on here on what the game is actually like..if it's stable and bug free and plays well etc etc.

aspqrz02 -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/29/2013 5:37:09 PM)

It's obvious what the delay is, they're still lugging the manuals and maps up the stairs! [:D]

Numdydar -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/29/2013 7:06:27 PM)

Maybe they had to sign a NDA to buy them early.

WIF_Killzone -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/29/2013 11:35:53 PM)

You wont hear from them for a week or more when they come up for air, food, and more beer.

DSWargamer -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/30/2013 4:59:05 PM)

Good games are played, bad games get complaints.

I don't think we will hear from the 50 for a long while, likely too busy with their new toy :)

as I see it, it is stable and mostly bug free. if you look very, very very hard you can find minor/cosmetic issues

but I coloured by being a beta tester.

For example, Michael keeps testing the code for China being liberated. I have a remaining bug from him to fix on what happens to Chinese Warlords (optional rule) in that circumstance. Conquering China isn't easy. And having another Allied major power advance all the way to Chungking to liberate China is even more difficult. But I still want to fix the bug - just not today.[:D]

EDIT: Here a screenshot of China that was previously posted for a different purpose. Note where Chungking is.

wodin -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/30/2013 10:16:22 PM)

If someone told me I had to sign an NDA after forking out that much I'd would be very concerned about why I have too..cos if it's good they would want the word out how amazing it is.

Those 50 buyers should be all part of their PR campaign..infact they should have told them they need to go onto the forums and tell everyone about the game, not to keep their mouths shut if that was the case.

I don't by they are to busy enjoying it..when you have a great game in your hands you want to go onto the forums and tell everyone about it.

A NDA means that you may not publicise anything that are secret. so when the game was sold to the public, it was no longer secret.

so i´m free from my NDA as for the part of the game that have been sold to the public, but the part still in development is still secret.

so to be clear, the post about NDA was a joke

Missouri_Rebel -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/30/2013 10:52:33 PM)

More gloomy weather predictions wodin?

I'm not sure what the agreement was for those that purchased the game at Essen, if there were any at all. One thing that was known up front was that it is an early access edition so there could be a few things that were not done in time for that candidate release. Those change. In my opinion Matrix probably wanted their presence seen at that trade show considering how close to release it was even if there was some final things that still needed to be compiled from all parties on the project.

Such is the nature of creation and ingenuity. Probably much like your line of work. What was it again that you do for a living?

I can't answer many questions as far as WiF goes because I'm less versed with the complete system. I will say though that it is a very big program, not just the massive rules itself, but also learning how to navigate through such a complex system takes a bit of time. At least it does for me.

wodin -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/30/2013 11:11:42 PM)

Yeah..sorry mate..just think Slitherine are missing a trick with those 50 buyers with regards to PR.

I'm a cynical git at times;). Thats not to say when something great comes along I will praise it from the roof..ala Flashpoint Campaigns. I want all games to succeed and have the greatest respect for all developers..publishers though from EA down have an agenda and they aren't in my top favourite business list (not that I have a list);)

I apologise though if I come across as a narky paranoid sh1t.

As for my living..I'm a single dad, classed as severely disabled and my daughter has Aspergers Syndrome so things can be tough. I do wish I had the talent to make wargames though.

WIF_Killzone -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/31/2013 12:37:46 AM)

You are cynical git at times but you are welcome nonetheless. [;)]

Bummer man, but, on the bright side, if your not working:

You get to watch Liverpool beat Man U this year
You get to stay home while I commute an hour and 1/2 to work
You get to buy this game and actually have time to play it
You get so good you dare to play me
You get to be a narky paranoid ****

Sorry to hear about your daughter, that's a bitch.

NDA only applies to those who signed up to be betatesters. Anyone who bought the game at Essen is completely free to post and talk about it. My guess is that they are climbing the learning curve at the moment and are nowhere ready enough to post about their experiences.

This is a BIG game and it will take a while for newbies to reach the top of the mountain.

shaddock -> RE: How did the booth at Essen go? (10/31/2013 2:25:20 AM)

Arsenal is going to beat them all!
