Well, now that the cat is out of the bag. When can we see it in game? [:D]

Already happening but with PTSD results:

It's not great obviously they want to take the human aspect out of it, but the downside to that is computers cannot empathise just do what there told to do.

strykerpsg -> RE: SR-72 platform request ;-P (11/1/2013 10:30:39 PM)

SR72, so cool! The fact that it has an optional strike capability is outstanding too.

With regards to drone operators and PTSD, I'm not so convinced. Way too many people clamoring for VA benefits and a paycheck for life. With procedures like EMDR and counseling to assist in overcoming the events, it's an easy claim for a paycheck for life. While I'm not glamorizing war or it's graphic depictions in modern IR/thermal sensors, just hard for me to have compassion for someone seated in a remote, air conditioned MILVAN located on a very secure FOB or even stateside versus a forward deployed warfighter literally avoiding IEDs, real bullets and all the other real and tangible sights, smells and atrocities of a ground war. Now, if we're talking about an in theater chopper pilot, they're another story and have earned my respect multiples times for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Never could call upon an armed UAVS to assist us on the battlefield. The fixed wings guys rocked too, so not trying to take away anything from them either. It's also why there's a strong disdain for UAV operators versus real pilots, but that's another story for an aviator to tell.

Just letting you know I've added the Aurora to the database:

SR-72A Aurora [Senior Citizen] -- United States (Air Force), 1998

[&o]

is the new version of the DB3000 included in the next public build?
also when will it be released? [:D]

keep up the excellent work!!

ComDev -> RE: SR-72 platform request ;-P (2/21/2014 12:51:02 PM)

The updated database will be included in the next public build which is probably 494 or 495 or something [8D]

NakedWeasel -> RE: SR-72 platform request ;-P (2/21/2014 6:18:25 PM)

Curious... Did you include a hypothetical strike loadout for this platform? I can't imagine what it might use or it's payload capacity. JASSM, JSOW, EGBU-28? Perhaps something made by IMI... Gotta love some Israeli-made A-G ordinance these days... The future is now- in Israel. [:D]

lowchi -> RE: SR-72 platform request ;-P (2/21/2014 6:29:44 PM)

the aurora is theorized as a recon plane.
but i think you can manually add some ordnance to it, thats the great thing about CMANO [8D]

ComDev -> RE: SR-72 platform request ;-P (2/21/2014 8:17:27 PM)

Guess the main issue is weapon separation at Mach 5. Plus don't think a JSOW, JASSM, etc will survive a Mach 5 release hehe [8D]

Weapon separation is a pretty big thing, esp at supersonic speeds.

There were some discussions about kinetic weapons being deployed from fast high-altitude bombers. When impacting at speeds of Mach 5 you don't need a warhead hehe.

NakedWeasel -> RE: SR-72 platform request ;-P (2/21/2014 8:50:30 PM)

Yes, good point there, Emsoy. I always figured that an Aurora/SR-72-type Strike/RECON would super cruise or dash at hypersonic to the target area, slow down to release ordinance and zip away to avoid troubles. That said, such a flight profile would be very fuel/energy inefficient using known technologies such as those we have here on Earth. Perhaps Bob Lazzar's anti-grav driven disc craft could get away with that... [sm=00000622.gif]

That does open the discussion to the equally hypothetical hypersonic strike weapons currently being developed by the US and China. And/or lasers.

Ah, you may be alluding to Rods From God concept? Inert metal rods released from orbit, impacting the target vicinity at mach 25+? Yes, I love that concept. I have also imagined a concept that includes about 1000 liters of Chlorine Trifluoride in the base of a 6 meter-long DU-tipped tungsten spear, that adds a whole lot of "extra fun" at touchdown. Really nasty. [sm=Evil-210.gif] The incendiary effect is of course necessary to defeat "agent" and to completely and irrevocably destroy anything that isn't vaporized by the KE effects.

Quite affordable as well. The tricky part would be getting such a heavy thing into orbit to begin with. I couldn't begin to calculate what a DU/WC rod the size of a telephone pole might weigh at sea level, not to mention the flask of ClF3 in the tail. I suppose it would be quite a lot ( I actually did calculate it hehe... at about 20ft x 8in. A solid rod of WC weighs about 8500lbs. A solid tip of DU approximately 1ft long x 4.5in at the base, weighs approximately 125+lbs. 1000 liters of CFl3 would add about 2200 lbs, add a VERY SECURE and DURABLE steel container in the tail for an additional 500lbs. Add an additional 250lbs for GPS, steering thrusters, fusing, etc. Rounding up for S&Gs, equals about 11,500lbs. Certainly that is big fun- but only about half as much as I thought. It's doable...

All this said, I think this type of weapon would serve as an adequate replacement for nuclear warheads in most counterforce roles. If I ever get my hands on the platform editor, we would see...

strykerpsg:::

Just wanted to go back to PTSD here, I know its an older post. As a UAV operator I just want to say that watching combat live on TV is not an stress-less experience. We know that there are real people on the ground and that the decisions we make matter. Furthermore, the theater level asset operators have to deal with a lack of compartmentalization between war and "normal life". If you go to work 10 minutes from your house and arrive on the other side of the world with lives on the line, and then head back home to kids who need help with their math homework... when did you have time to mentally deal with what you saw (you might be able to talk something out with you battle buddy who shares your rack, but if you even could talk about it with your spouse(if it wasn't classified) would they think it was more important than Johny getting bullied at school or the car braking down)? I think the challenge of being a normal citizen at the same time you are fighting a war weighs in a way we might not yet understand. Not everyone is looking for a handout and veterans should be given the benefit of the doubt.

I have to live with the decisions I made in a box in Afghanistan, and not being able to hear or smell or put my feet on the ground or return fire but instead just sit an watch made it hard for me, from my perspective.

Not meant as a flame... sorry for being a little of topic

That's why you arm it with LASERS! :)

You know how I feel about this one. It was in my 1996 EXP Database....cool![&o]

erichswafford -> RE: SR-72 platform request ;-P (2/23/2014 3:24:21 PM)

How did your wife deal with you being a drone operator vs. flying an aircraft "live"? We had some issues with the more ambitious ladies giving their pilot husbands a lot of grief about not flying "for real". Don't answer it it's too personal.

I agree 100% with what you said. To this day, I can't (and don't know what good it would do anyway) talk about a lot of things I saw and did. Add to that my wife is formerly a Russian national and it's all pretty much off limits. I'm out now and so just try to forget about it. Still startle like Hell when the a/c clicks on at night, but it gets better every year.

Thank God you guys are out there doing the dirty work for the rest of us. I remember how no one I knew outside of the USAF really had any awareness that there was a War ongoing. It felt lonely - all my friends from med school and residency lived in what seemed like an alternate universe. It kinda pissed me off, like "Have you guys got the slightest idea what's going on out here?" I was jealous of how they lived, frankly.

People here are really into military subjects and so are well aware of the situation(s) our guys/gals are in.
