DougM -> Improving support (1/21/2003 1:24:55 AM)

I've only been playing the early scenarios since Christmas but was hoping to launch into a campaign shortly. I've read the manual (and reread the sections on bases, supply & logistics), but I'm not sure I understand how to improve the support levels.

Any suggestions/explanations would be appreciated. Great game!

Hi DougM,

HQ's add support for ground troops; they are pure support units. Use "lesser" HQs to support new bases. E.g., as Japan, don't move the Combined Fleet to a forward base, but instead use the South Seas Detachment or some such. As the USA, don't use SOPAC or SWPAC; if you move the Americal Division somewhere, move its HQ along with it.

In addition, most ground units carry some support personnel with them, but often not enough to support the entire unit.

Finally, "Base Force" units provide the crucial air support for your air units. Without air support, your aircraft won't function.

I hope this helps!

As a further caveat to Grotius's (very good) info, you should try to keep units "reasonably" close to their parent HQ. It's not absolutely necessary, but I read somewhere that a unit that is not stacked with (or maybe within 3 hexes of) it's parent HQ would suffer additional disruption (as in, it my have a MINIMUM disruption of say 10 or so if it is not near it's parent HQ).
