sanderz -> Cost to a UK buyer is £108.12 (11/7/2013 6:43:32 PM)

Cost to a UK buyer is £108.12 which is less than i expected.

Breakdown is:

£66.99 Game
£27.73 Postage
£13.40 VAT
======
£108.12

Feel a bit miffed about cost of postage. Also, anyone know if you have to pay duty in addition to VAT and if so at what rate?

Thanks

EDIT : This is without the maps

Please see this announcement for more info on shipping and customs:

$110 + tax Canadian. Much better than I thought it would be. Well done Steve and Matrix

Also FYI if you are already buying the game, the incremental addition to the shipping costs to add the map pack is not a major addition as they fit in the same box.

Mundy -> RE: Cost to a UK buyer is £108.12 (11/7/2013 6:53:49 PM)

Yes, this is an excellent deal, considering the books included.  At $99.99 US, it's pretty much a steal.  WITP-AE was only $10 less, and I've been very happy with that purchase.

Hopefully for Steve & Matrix they sell well.

With this news, I'll probably buy sooner rather than later.

This game is about half the price of the equivalent "Deluxe" package of the boardgame.

VAT should be £18.94 as it is charged on the total value. You shouldn't get any duty though, as it only kicks in after £135 according to the HMRC website. You should also avoid the custom agent handling charge as VAT is charged at source, and I'm assuming that is marked on the package.

Edit: Matrix usually charges VAT at the point of purchase in my experience, but it looks like that isn't the case with this game (see below). Maybe physical shipments are treated differently, but I haven't bought an imported physical computer game for years, so I can't be sure.

But look at all those roads, the National Health Service, the BBC, the Police, Fire Brigade, Education for the kids... All paid out of those "goddam taxes"...

$186.98 to me in New York, maps and all! I'm a happy camper! So far I've learned 2:1 odds for the attacker is not good :(

Akula23 -> RE: Cost to a UK buyer is £108.12 (11/7/2013 8:42:55 PM)

Do have to agree that it seems very expensive especially as I don't want or desire the physical product.

Won't purchase this game until it is purely a digital download (which I would pay the 67 pounds for)

Mynok -> RE: Cost to a UK buyer is £108.12 (11/7/2013 10:10:52 PM)

My understanding is that the agreement with ADG does not allow for purely digital. They still want to sell board game WiF.

So do what you want but its foolish to avoid purchase for such a petty reason.

Peeking Duck? -> RE: Cost to a UK buyer is £108.12 (11/7/2013 10:36:43 PM)

Not sure why mine was different than the OPs, but, my cost came out £96.04

I get £94.72 (66.99+27.73 postage) before I click on the PayPal button. VAT hasn't been added at that point, and I'm pretty sure PayPal doesn't add it for you (I'm just checking the price, not purchasing at this point!), so you'll probably get charged (high probability in my experience) VAT by the delivery service. So add 20%, plus you'll get an extra £8 for the custom's agent charge. So that comes in at close to £122.

Dorb -> RE: Cost to a UK buyer is £108.12 (11/7/2013 11:04:23 PM)

World in Flames,Maps and Flash Point Red Storm(tossed that on when wife wasn't looking and since I was already paying freight $27.00) Total for all $266.97(with freight)

Now stop making 'must have games" for awhile...please.

wodin -> RE: Cost to a UK buyer is £108.12 (11/8/2013 11:43:30 AM)

You really shouldn't be being charged VAT twice..you've already paid it to Slitherine who will then pass it onto the UK Tax Office in their annual VAT return. (I used to work for Customs and Excise). Now if Slitherine didn't charge VAT then they have the right to charge you. This is an issue your buying a game paying UK taxes but it's coming from the USA....and therefore getting charged again.

Missouri_Rebel -> RE: Cost to a UK buyer is £108.12 (11/8/2013 11:53:35 AM)

This is the exact reason why everyone should vote down any and all new taxes here in These States. What do you honestly gain from them?

I'll tell you. Higher prices without any noticeable change in services and a promise of even more taxes. Value added. Lol. Work harder for less is their idea of added value.

catwhoorg -> RE: Cost to a UK buyer is £108.12 (11/8/2013 11:53:55 AM)

I was suprised at the pricing.

I thought $120 would be the price point.

Not a game for me at this time, but good luck and hope it sells well.

Not sure why it is a petty reason not to buy a physical copy, since in addition to the price of the game, for a physical copy he'd also have to pay for postage for something he didn't want. Maybe no big deal for a die-hard fan, but I would think they'd be trying to attract new players as well, and frankly for new players it is a turn off.

The suggestion that they are not selling digital copies because they want to sell board games does not really make sense, since the markets for these products are probably distinct--who has room for a 9'x21' map anyway?

I suspect that they want to be sure that they sell all of the expensive hard cover books and once they've done so will offer a digital-only offer.
