greynomad_slith -> Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (11/9/2013 3:40:49 AM)

HI, I have just started the Barbarossa scenario, upto impulse 3, German impulse. Phase indicator is "ground support attack". There are no units showing as selectable.The end phase button is inactive. Ctrl Shft doesn't work. I cannot save the game. I can move around the map. Any suggestions?

paulderynck -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (11/9/2013 3:47:10 AM)

Roll up the map and see if there are any forms that are open behind it. Perhaps there is a form you can't see that is waiting for a response?

Hi Paul, thanks for your suggestion. I have rolled up the map and there are no forms. There are only two windows visible - the map and the "command window". I have tried using the arrow buttons to select the next selectable unit, but that doesn't work either.

You may have to force quit and then find the most recent save or autosave in that Scenario's folder. There are so many, you hopefully shouldn't have to reconstruct too much.

If the steps are repeatable and the same thing happens, then a list of those steps plus the last save retrievable should be set aside so they can be sent for bug fixing.

Yes.

If this is repeatable, then I will be able to fix it, given a saved game and a set of instructions.

Rosseau -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (11/9/2013 10:39:11 PM)

The same exact thing happened to me. I force quit, restarted fine and don't believe I lost much. Of course, my first time playing WiF, but not a show stopper by any means.

Hi Greymond

I just went to Barbarossa to check this out and it seems to be working correctly. And the game save is working correctly I am not saying you are not having trouble, could you put a picture on this post for us.

Also you are in impulse 3 could you have used all of your ground support in impulse 1 ?

Shannon V. OKeets -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (11/11/2013 2:47:47 AM)

Ground Support doesn't require Air Activities.

Joseignacio -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (11/11/2013 9:00:02 AM)

This very issue happened to me all along the few impulses we have played, we may have palyed like 5 impulses in all, and we've had to load like 15 or 20 times...

Hi Jose

I am confused and this might not be my baliwick but are you referring to my picture above are you saying your screen does not look like that.

To my knowledge I have the exact same game as you do and I am haveing no trouble, if this is real deep than Matrix will have to help you.

Bo

So this is a NetPlay bug.

Did this happen before or after you updated with 1.0.1?

Jose are your questions about net play or solo play?

Bo

I have the same issue. I have v1.05 and it happens in both the solo and head to head play. I have used all the air missions. It stops after the I click ok to close the combat results window. I have forced close multiple times, started a new game and it stops in the same place every time.

JR5555 -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (12/7/2013 12:48:54 AM)

You can try this, go down to the task bar and while there click on the MWIF icon on your task bar. See if the window pops up for you.

fumblesredeye -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (12/7/2013 12:58:11 AM)

No nothing happens. Now I started playing the fast barbarossa saved game and it works fine. But when I start from the beginning and setup myself is when it stops.

I need more information to understand the problem you encountered.

There are several combat results forms in the game and I do not know to which one you are referring. Which scenario? Which turn? Which impulse? Which side is the phasing side? Which phase? Are you in a subphase? What units were involved in the combat and what were the results of the combat?

Most of these can probably be answered by simply posting a screenshot.

fumblesredeye -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (12/7/2013 2:57:01 AM)

Barbarossa, 1st turn, 1st impulse, Ground Strike impulse, 1st combat, Germans. As soon as I close the results screen it stops. It should move to the next combat, but that is where it stops. I attached a file screenshot (I think).

Here is my Barbarosa problem! It's a solitaire game. Can't advance to next phase!

Thats the same screen I get after clicking ok on the ground strike form.

Does this bug also appears if you did restore an earlier saved game and go through this again? Or is it a one time thing (I've stumbled upon these type of bugs sometimes but was able to proceed normally if I just got back to a previous saved game and continue from there). This might be the work around...

I can also provide a save game. It is a repeater. See attached. It will stop after the first attack in the ground strike phase.

paulderynck -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (12/8/2013 4:31:43 AM)

fumblesredeye, I looked at your game file. The problem is action limits. You are taking a Land action and already had used 3 air units for your port strike. They are sitting in Konigsberg disorganized. You only get four air missions in a Land action. See RAC Section 10.1 - Action Types.

The action choice is a key ingredient in WiF and requires careful planning. Another thing you could have done is used your Offensive Chit and taken what in WiF-slang is called a "Super-Combined" for your action. See RAC Section 16.

BTW normally you would not do ground strikes one at a time. You'd fly all the planes - up to your action limit - and then resolve interceptions etc. and then finally conduct the bombings.

Also, I used your file, successfully ground struck the 6-4 Russki that was out of supply with the 5-factor Stuka. I clicked "OK" on the Ground Strike results form and then the return to base sub-step came up and I returned the Stuka, then the green phase button came on. Screen shot is below. I next clicked the end phase and the game progressed to Rail Movement.

Note the small window in the upper left. That shows all the ground striking planes that needed to return to base. They can be returned by selecting them in that window or they can be selected from over top the enemy that they ground struck. Perhaps that window is opening somewhere hidden from you in your screen layout and that's why you think the game is frozen. As I said, even if you don't see the window, you should be able to find your ground strikers on the map and return them.

If the game appears frozen always check the white box two lines down from the flag showing who's active - plus the title bar on the main form - they can tell you what the game thinks it needs to do next.

Please take a look at the reply to fumblesredeye in the post above. Your game, however, says it's in the air re-org phase. Did you do any? Could there be an ATR somewhere that needs to return to base after its mission?

If none of the foregoing seems to fit your issue, please zip a copy of the game file from just before the problem (or even at the problem if you saved there) and upload it to this thread.

Thanks.

dhucul2011 -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (12/16/2013 3:09:56 AM)

Same thing just happened to me.

Global war, solitaire.

Germany declares all of her attacks in May/June 1940 and then ground support.

The game tells me how much is added to my attacks and then it stays at "Ground Support: Attack" for the French player.

No units are selectable and the game won't save.

Shannon, how would I get this save game to you?

paulderynck -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (12/16/2013 7:07:14 AM)

Please zip it and upload it to this thread.

dhucul2011 -> RE: Barbarossa Scenario - can't proceed to next phase (12/16/2013 11:37:29 PM)

Found the problem. I had a German paratroop behind French lines. Just before the phase that I couldn't get past it asked for defender ground support/bombard so I chose a French artillery on the Maginot to bombard the paratroop behind him. That stalled the game at "Ground Support: Attack"

I decided not to try that again on reload and lo and behold it worked?

Why might choosing the French to bombard cause this problem?

If you can zip the GAM file and attach/upload the zipped file to a post in this thread, that would help us fault isolate and fix the problem.

While this very well could have confused the game, the French artillery can only defensive ground support French units in French hexes. That artillery should only be able to bombard the German paratroop in the French Ground Strike phase or as offensive ground support for a French attack. Normally, if an artillery is adjacent and part of a friendly attack, then you wouldn't bombard with it because then it becomes disorganized. Possible exceptions to "normally" are attacking across rivers or fort hexsides, because then the artillery wouldn't be halved and you might need the extra factors.
