ExMachina -> Sonobuoy release height--how high? (11/12/2013 3:44:48 AM)

Is it correct for planes to drop sonobuoy's from 12000 meters?

According to this, release heights of at least 30,000 feet are possible although not recommended due to wind drift. The document recommends a 1000 ft release height to guarantee correct buoy placement.

Would it be possible for to CMANO model wind drift for high-altitude sonobuoy drops (ie, a placement error proportional to releaase altitude and wind speed)? That would encourage real world ASW partol practices.

(and now we wait for Sunburn to chime in to say that it's already modeled [:D])

Not to mention that sonobuoys drift once they're in the water as well. [;)]
