I can do most things but decimal points do often get me thinking.

some examples:

I have a range of numbers from 0 > 1.0

so the numbers range from 0 to 0.999 then 1.0?

so 0.200 would be a fifth of the total value?

this is the one that gets me:

0.6

Is that .600 or .006?
Like 0.33 is that 0.330 or 0.033?

0.6 is 0.600, 0.33 is 0.330

remember... after the decimal point (or comma as we Germans use), it's 1/10th, then 1/100th, then 1/1000th etc.

P.S. That reminds me of... the range display in sectors for the starship. Are there any plans to calculate or measure the range between star systems, e.g. a click and drag tape measure kinda thing? Would come in quite handy.

Thanks. I can program in hex and can do math in it but decimal I never really used much, base 10 is a strange language to me.

I Googled the question 'Is 0.66 greater than 0.6' and it comes up with yes on numerous sources which would mean that 0.6 is .006 as .066 is greater but your saying that 0.6 is equal to .600?

Not star co-ords, values for the biases.txt in Shadows, just trying to work out ranges and values.

Maybe it was a High-School teachers union google result? ;)

Look, in fractions 0.6 = 60/100 and 0.66 = 66/100; ergo the latter is higher.

Maybe this can help you to understand it.
You allways say "Is 0.66 greater than 0.6" but you just think at numbers, maybe you should think at things or use a different scale.
Try to say is 0.66 Kg is greater then 0.6 Kg, so if you remember Kg means Kilo gramm, Kilo means 1000. So 0.66 Kg = 660 g and 0.6 Kg are 600 g.

In any decimal, post number 0's are often not shown (like pre number 0's for normal numbers)

0.36
0.360
0.36000
0.36000000

These are all the same decimal in the same way as

4.0
04.0
0004.0
000004.0

Are all the same number

If somebody had just said "0.FF is greater than 0.F and 0.F is equal to .F" ... then there would have been no confusion!
