One of our Vietnam War scenario designers says he needs 50 elevations in order to model deep gorges properly. (Said to be useful for RS scenarios set in Papua New Guinea too.)

The terrain on and around Hamburger Hill is a good example for more elevations

XLVIIIPzKorp -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/19/2014 4:10:13 PM)

So my opponent and I are 4 turns in to a 64 turn monster, will this update be compatible with games in progress or will we need to finish this beastie before we install?

berto -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/19/2014 4:26:37 PM)

The update is not due out for another four weeks or so. By then you will be much further into your current game. Best not to take any chances and just stick with the current v1.04 for your ongoing scenario.

I know that the new updated versions will be compatible with all pre-existing scenarios, but ongoing games? Probably, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Crossroads -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/19/2014 5:16:12 PM)

I just tried to continue the WF Screaming Eagles scenario with the new version. At least for that particular scenario there were no issues. I agree with Berto, just keep going, and if necessary keep a parallel 1.04 folder with the new version on a separate folder just in case.

That's what I do at the moment, I have two installations, other for the on-going 1.04 PBEMs I am participating with, and another one for testing the new stuff.

XLVIIIPzKorp -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/19/2014 6:24:56 PM)

Thanks for the responses gentlemen. Figured it would probably be best not to take any chances, just wanted to hear a confirmation.

Appreciate all the work everyone has done and I anxiously await my opportunity to take the new version out for a spin. Thanks to all for devotion to this classic!!

TAIL GUNNER -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/20/2014 2:16:03 AM)

Any chances of fixing the graphical glitches when you need a hex that is +4 higher (or more) than surrounding hexes?

berto -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/20/2014 1:34:41 PM)

For the impending release, no chance. In future, we will likely require some outside assistance (outside the team, from Slitherine and/or Lordz Studio?) to fix this and other graphics problems.

This might happen with the Modern Wars series, but I may be speaking out of turn. At the moment I am working on a gigantic map (roughly 84 Km by 188 Km) of the area north and south of the Vietnam DMZ. On the western edge of the map are some high mountains that are in excess of 1200 meters. I had to truncate them so that my delta was below 50 meters (delta=46 meters) but that also meant that I could not represent the lower hills located along the coastline. We have 20 elevations at the moment and hopefully we will have more (I don't know how many more) available when Modern Wars Volume 1 is released.

I agree with both Berto and Crossroads. Play your monster scenario with 1.04.

Cheers 48th,

I just revisited your question by playing the enemy turn replay for our 3x3 team game of Fury at Viborg Bay, a SM9 EF scenario, with the latest 1.05/2.0 EF executables. No issues whatsoever! And as you can always opt to keep your old 1.04 install next to the new one, I believe you guys can continue to play the game with confidence [:)]

Here she is, with Scandinavian Terrain and Realistic Water Hexes mods enabled. EF's never looked this good has she! [:)]

Also, with the latest sound changes, flame throwers and infantry hand guns a complettely new sound stage.

Not long to go anymore guys!

Just to make my point clear perhaps, we are playing the PBEM team game with EF 1.04 + Forgotten Battles mod. The screenprint? Vanilla 1.05/2.0 [:)]

Is there a list of changes for the next release somewhere? What will change exactly?

Best I can do is a list of threads

Thanks Junk,

Are there some more screenshots about the game? Are the uber-ugly unit 3d images replaced?

Thanks Junk,

Can you direct me to more screenshots about the game 3d view? Are the uber-ugly 3D unit images replaced?

junk2drive -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/26/2014 2:15:15 PM)

Some of them may have been improved but I doubt the majority of them have changed. These were always better than the ones in Squad Battles. There is someone at the blitz that reworked some for download.

The originals were made by placing primered GHQ miniatures on a turntable with 6 markings and taking photos. Then painting the photo image in photoshop or similar. They probably looked good on a 15" 4:3 monitor at 800x600.

sztartur2 -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/26/2014 3:25:05 PM)

Very pitty. There was a mod CS meets PG3D an ingenious mod but its owner had no manners. Units and terrain looked gorgeous I hoped this update does something similar.

berto -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/26/2014 4:44:39 PM)

Sorry, guys. Improved graphics are not the focus of the impending release. It's beyond our time and capabilities (30,000+ graphics and sound files!). With the help of Slitherine and Lordz Studio, maybe next time.

Zovs -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/26/2014 5:24:28 PM)

Wow I just got through all the 'coders' threads!

Very excellent and can't wait for the update!

So apparently there will be a JT Modern Release (Middle East + Vietnam, and does that include Korea?).

So many good things to look forward to with this new release.

Love your 'Man Cave' setup bero!

Do you work from home?

sztartur2 -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/26/2014 5:26:57 PM)

Well if CS could just import the terrain and unit pictures of Panzer Corps it would add the mood of the game immensely... Don't get me wrong I do not long for 3D flashy graphics but currently CS is ugly beyond any expectation... Panzer Corps does an excellent compromise on that, their UI and music is excellent but there I lack the depth that is in CS. Result: I don't play for long neither of them...

Jason Petho -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/26/2014 5:36:16 PM)

I disagree. I find Panzer Corps unpleasant to the eyes. Far too cartoonish looking.

While outdated, the Campaign Series has the look of table top wargaming, where its roots lie.

Most likely, we will release Middle East then later Vietnam as separate, standalone games. Korea is for the future.

For my Matrix/Slitherine work, yes.

Unfortunately, with my devoting virtually all of my free time to Campaign Series work over the past two months, since the onset of winter I have done little further rehabbing of the Man Cave. The weather forecast here in Chicago over the next two to three days is

  • lows -7 to -19 F (-22 to -27 C)
  • highs 2 to -3 F (-16 to -19 C)

    with

  • winds 16 to 24 mph (25 to 39 kmh)

    so dangerously cold wind chills.

What would I do without my space heater? [sm=sterb032.gif]

    +1

Some of the non-vehicle unit images need improving. But all in all, not bad, the 15-year-old Campaign Series graphics Get The Job Done. Still works for me.

(But, oh, I so much want one more level of zoomed-in 2D. That might become my preferred mode of play. Hopefully next time.)

Zovs -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/26/2014 6:14:45 PM)

    berto,

LOL, I am in the Mchenry area up north of Chicago, about 20 miles I think from the WI boarder so I know about the cold we are having ..lol

Again thanks for the work on this, can't wait for the patches.

And when the Middle East, Vietnam and Korea come out I'll snag them up.

Warhorse -> RE: Campaign Series 1.05/2.0 UPDATE release schedule. (1/26/2014 7:47:37 PM)

There is an interim Korean War Mod out there for free right now that I made years ago. Consider it a teaser of what is to come, it is fully functional and has scenarios with it!

    http://rapidshare.com/share/5C490A88DFB777B3058AD7CD0216F19B

Unzip into your Matrix Games\John Tillers Campaign Series directory, it should make a folder and all, then apply the patch to it.

    Have fun!!
