Greyshaft -> What mod would you like to see? (11/19/2013 3:17:04 AM)

I'd love to see a mod where the Wright Brothers died in a bicycle crash in 1902 and the airplane was never invented. All carriers are exchanged for battleships and all air units are recycled into Production Points and then into tanks and artillery prior to game start. It wouldn't be the faintest bit historical but it could be very interesting ... I'd predict a stalemate on the Rhine and an early Barbarossa.

Also like to see Fatal Alliances (WWI) as a scenario.

Maybe these two mods are the same animal ?

I think there are a host of small scenarios that would be fun to play. If a nice way is found to deal with "externalities", that is, to model the effect (or lack thereof) of external events on the limited scope of the scenario.

* D-Day (maybe just France, Low Countries, and Germany)
* China (perhaps even starting in a simulated 1937)
* Desert War (my personal favorite)

I'd want a simple little one, that would make Washington one of the 10 cities required for an auto-win. (take away Praetoria or something). That way, when the AI eventually comes out, I can do the extended game option, and try for full world conquest [sm=00000055.gif]

I bought this game because of the fond memories of the map and counters. I had the maps up on a metal sheet using magnets and magnetic counter holders that you could buy. Kept it away from kids and cats. I forgot how complicated it was.

I also bought it to see if I could modify it to simulate my version of World War Three starting in 1946. We'll see how it goes.

Greyshaft - the airplane was not invented by the Wright Brothers, their contribution was the first controlled powered flight.

I never said the airplane was invented by the Wright brothers ... I was merely adding some colorful flamboyance to my request for a mod which removed airpower from MWiF . If you prefer we can list all of the contributors back to Icarus and da Vinci and presume that they died also but I think that is being a bit pedantic.

Khaki in Flames. No additional units, just the CW in a color that allows one to read the text on the counters.

From the ADG website:

Are you finding those pesky blue Commonwealth counters getting harder to read as you mature? I sure have, I'm mad as heck and not going to take it anymore.

I'd like a mod that changes the ground attack charts.

I've been playing WiF for 20 years. One thing that has allways bothered me (from 5th edition to final edition, with 2T10 and 1T6 and so on) is that the assault/blitz charts have pretty much the oposite effects from what they should have.
An assault in WiF is for some reason the high risk attack that destroys units on both sides while the "blitz" is the low risk attack that just pushes the enemy forces back. How the hell did ADG think when they came to this conclution?!? This should be exactly the opposite. The fact that the blitz is easier to succeed is on the other hand pretty much the only thing they got right when it comes to land combat charts.

Small detail, yes someone would have got the plane done right. It's a Mod and a Game thought.

Have fun

A mod in which you roll twice each blitz/assault combat: the first time for the loss of the attacker and the second time for the loss of the defender.

I don't know for sure in the sense of trying to put numbers to it, but in general I think ADG got it right. In a blitz attack your goal is typically to punch through and get manouver forces past the enemy line. It would be more successful and tend to kill less units on both sides, whereas assault attacks aim to take a location by force from the enemy 'coup de main' style. Causing more casualties on both sides and overall succeeding less often. One could change the names and all that would happen is folks would choose the same table in the same situations.

It would be interesting to see the casualty numbers in real terms from actual battles with blitz and assault tactics, but the first problem would be I think determining which engagements were blitz and which were assault in WIF terms!

brian brian -> RE: What mod would you like to see? (1/16/2014 12:28:18 AM)

I agree with Mike, I think WiF gets it right in this regard. I think you might be talking past the terminology a little bit in that attacking forces could employ different methods for different goals, and the 2 combat tables represent that.

If you are really interested in the varieties of land combat the 3d10 combat system from the last Annual published by ADG would probably interest you. A wide variety of tactical options for the attacker and the defender.

claystone_MatrixForum -> RE: What mod would you like to see? (1/16/2014 1:09:55 AM)

I like to see:

1. A mod that can randomize the game everytime you start a new game. IE: I attack Poland with Germany, have it that the next time i play as Germany, England and France declares war on me and attacks me while i'm attacking Poland. The next time i play as Germany and attack Poland have maybe Russia attacks me that game. I want to be surprised. Since we know the history of WW2 a little it takes away from the fun and surprise of the game. A sandbox mod. And to have no "end date".

I would pay for a mod like that. An open sandbox WW2 game.

Easy solution: go back a page in the browser and your writings reappear.

Open word and copy the text into there. Reopen the forum and copy the tekst of the word document back in the forum and you've got that problem solved...
