I love the look of the latest solitiare U Boat game...Steel Wolves...expnsive but a game I'd like to own. I'd alos like to have the solitiare D Day Omaha game...rave reviews that one.

I do own a monster game. Battle for Normandy GMT games. All I do is look at the lovely counters!!

I also have a DVG solitiare game Frontline D Day. Haven't played it yet. Looks good but I may end up selling it off.

Fields of Fire is a game I also like the look of. Though you need the second edition rulebook as the first edition was slated for being very poor.

I still didn't manage to play Luftschiff.

To recruit opponents for World in Flames either on Vassal or the boardgame.

Any interest in the interminably delayed, Matrix computerized edition?[&:]

That one's pulling in a pretty penny on Ferrengi-bay these days... makes me glad I never got around to it and left it in shrinkwrap.

You might want to filter through the player evaluations/reviews at BGG. In stark contrast to Silent War, I recall comments that the game is hopelessly unbalanced. Of course, that's just from memory. One way, or the other, check out the player reviews before you plonk down your $$$!

Actually, _I_ might want to edit text I've quoted better. I was referring to D-Day at Omaha. Which is now pulling in larger amounts of money on Ferrengi-bay than Steel Wolves' MSRP.

As to Steel Wolves (which I still want in spite of _any_ negative reviews, valid or not), there is always the lighter alternative of DVG's U-Boat Leader. (another I've had for a couple weeks, but haven't delved into yet).

Ill buy it when it comes out and I believe they will eventually finish it. In the meantime though there are equally as rewarding options.

I'm waiting on Conflict of heroes PC version...but still no news at all...nothing...very very odd indeed.

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: Board games v Computer games (12/10/2011 10:26:16 PM)

I am waiting on the remake of Hermans Pacific War.....looks like Multiman games may reprint(version two) it in the future.  Probley awhile out though.

ezzler -> RE: Board games v Computer games (12/11/2011 5:42:27 PM)

I have that d-day game, but haven't played it. I'd forgotten I'd bought it until i read your post.

I haven't played Steel Wolves, but did have the pacific version. the reviews are about right.
Why they put in a chit / cup system instead of a die roll i have no idea. The tedium of having to pull 20 chits from different cups and then just decide to abort or be forced to abort is too time-wasting to describe.
I played 2 years and was winning the war, but figured I'd never set it up again so on ebay it went.

Has some good mechanics but some poor ones too.
