dragoniv -> stars out of turmoil issue (1/23/2003 9:33:02 PM)

One more item to add to the patch list. :)

Normally, when a star comes out of turmoil, you get a message about it. Generally, this is very helpful, especially if you tend to blitz a single enemy on 5+ resource planets over 1-2 years--because, once you're done, 5+ planets are now in turmoil. Now, I don't know about you, but I'm big on stealing those from my enemy--I'm generally not interested in destroying their route and giving it back to them (or someone else).

But...in a large galaxy, they don't tend to stick out. With all the switching between local and galaxy views, you'd probably miss out on a planet coming out of turmoil if you didn't get the out of turmoil message.

Guess what--more than occasionally, espeically late in the game when there are always multiple systems in turmoil, I've found that planets will spontaneously exit turmoil stage without posting a message. At first, I thought I was just missing the messages--but time and again, I've seen stars go back to normal in real time, with no messages....one second the red X is there, the next it's gone...and the next, it's now back in the hands of the Kimshaars.

Was that done to make the game easier for the computer, or just an oversight?

I believe that it was designed that way so that the human player doesn't have an unfair advantage on gaining these new resource systems.

This is something you might notice in your first game or two if you are doing well enough to be going after an enemy on a resource system basis. It is a great way to improve your resources and reduce the enemy capability at the same time.

You have to wait for the star to come out of turmoil before you can send a frieghter to it. I have discovered that if I select the star while it is in turmoil (just click it on the star map). Eventually an event will change your focus, and things will move on. When the star comes out of turmoil the game should pause with the notice.

Maybe this could be classified as a cheat

At any rate, it's worked 100% of the time since I've been doing it, and I've been able to quickly take over resource systems from the enemy. Better than running the game at 1x speed and straining your eyes to watch 5 or more star systems to turn white.

thanks--I'll definitely give that a try!
